Nintendo of Europe has revealed the most downloaded titles for the month of February 2020 on the Nintendo Switch eShop. Interestingly the top two games are third party titles with EA’s Unravel 2 taking the top spot followed by ID Software and Bethesda’s DOOM 3. The soon-to-be-released Animal Crossing: New Horizons is in 6th place and sure to climb to the top soon.
If I was the devloper of Mario Rabbids and I see that it is still top 10, I’d be making a sequel. Unlike Ubisoft that makes Nintendo exclusives like Rayman Legends and Mario Rabbids and then after a release dont do nothing I’m making sequels.
You don’t seem to realize how much time and effort it takes to make a game.

I didn’t have to buy an upgraded console to play those sequels?Why? Because the devlopers immediately worked on sequels after the 1st game was released.
Obviously they didnt do anything to work on a new DK game because if they did they wouldnt had ported Tropical Freeze to the Switch. They didn’t port Yoshi’s Wooly World because they immediately worked on the sequel and it came to the Switch.
But now that the Yoshi game is on Switch, I bet you they havent started a 3rd yoshi game.

I do agree that Nintendo is sometimes making the wait between sequels a bit to long (F-Zero and Advance Wars for example), but they cannot always make a sequel the following year. And sometimes it isn’t necessary either — look at GTA V. It sells like hotcakes even though it’s old. It would be stupid to make a new game right away when it still sells. And sometimes the marked isn’t big enough for a niche game every year. But yeah, I wish they would speed up the production for Paper Mario and make som Gamecube HD-ports or something.

Mario Rabbids been off the top 10 list since September 2018. Still no sequel.
Luigi Mansion 3 barely in top 10.
Mario Maker 2 no longer in top 10.
Pokemon Sword and Shield barely in top ten. I highly doubt they have successors in R&D right away
If it sells bad, they won’t make a new one at first.
If it continues to sell well, they’ll wait with a new one.
If a sequel would sell as much as the prior one without taking off the sales from the first one, they would release something asap. The sequels you want are probably under consideration.

Had the developers immediately worked on The Last of Us 2, it could had been upon PS4 while The Last of Us 3 could had been on PS5. But developers want to wait 7 years before making a sequel. After Last of Us debuts those devleopers are not going to immediately start Last of Us 3 while Ps5 is in its early stages. If they work on a trio right away Ps5 could get Last of Us 3.
