Bloomberg has recently published an in-depth look at Microsoft’s plans for Japan with its next generation consoles the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. The gist of the article is that Sony is placing more importance on the west with the PlayStation 5 and that Microsoft is trying to make more inroads in Japan. Several companies have told Bloomberg that Microsoft is seeking acquisitions in the country. However, game consultant Serkan Toto is firm in his belief that whatever happens Nintendo will remain king in Japan.
“All signs point that for the next years, Nintendo will stay king in Japan, and I really don’t understand why Microsoft is still so obsessed with Japan.”
Stating the obvious since nintendo prints their own money.

I think Microsoft will gain more terrain in Japan this generation thanks to GamePass. Japan already plays a lot on PC, so maybe more Japanese people will be interested in an Xbox thanks to GamePass
