Believe it or not, despite Mario Kart 8 Deluxe being 4 years old, Nintendo has not forgotten about the game at all. It is largely due to the game becoming an evergreen title, still selling well even today. But, if you thought that Nintendo had decided long ago not to update the game anymore, then tonight’s news might surprise you.
A brand new update for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe released earlier tonight, bringing it to version 1.7.2. As for the official patch notes, they only list a couple of things. They said that they “addressed an issue that caused tournament points to be reset.”, and that they “addressed an issue that caused match history with friends to be reset.”.
In my opinion, not giving this game DLC is such a missed opportunity. With it being the most sold game on the Switch, it may have been one of the most well sold DLC besides maybe Smash Bros. All you needed for this game is new characters, new vehicles, and new stages. It’s a great idea if they don’t plan on releasing a MK9 for the Switch (why would people buy it if they already have such a great Mario Kart experience already?).
Nintendo has some amazing ideas for DLC with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Breath of the Wild. Even Age of Calamity has DLC when it’s just a few new characters, weapons, and missions. If only…
They closes deluxe got to dlc, was botw link with his bike setup, which was still release randomly and out of nowhere, I only have a 20% chance of hope mario kart 10 or whatever they name it (tour is canon as mainline mario kart soo..)
I’m not sure if they count Tour as 9 since online is required to play it. It would feel weird to have one of the main series titles be completely unplayable eventually.
Technically it did get DLC. It’s Mario Kart 8, specifically, the Deluxe version which includes all the DLC (plus extra stuff iirc).
I’m not defending the game nor do I think some DLC for it would be a bad idea… But I can also see how Nintendo probably thinks they already did enough for MK8 AND the fact that it keeps being a top seller.
Personally, I hope for a transition to Nintendo Kart since they already had guest drivers and tracks in MK8. Would be a lot more interesting than a cast that is mainly normal version, baby version, animal version, metal version, etc.
I would like for Pauline to be playable.
She’s a shoe in for the next Mario Kart whenever they decide to make it. Would love to have Diddy and Funky Kong return, and have Egadd in the series.
Only game I still play on the Switch, but it’s time to announce MK9.
Rumours have been spreading that Nintendo has been doing something for the past 3 years that’s Mario Kart related for the Nintendo Switch.
Whether or not it’s a new game or DLC for this game is currently unknown but with this as well as a bunch of other rumours from this individual being confirmed, I’m gonna say it’s likely true.
Lmfao still can’t help but laugh for that time when Nintendo said “There will be more updates to come for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe so please look forward to it’. Well that was a blatant lie. And I’m still stuck on what the hell they meant with that “Good things come to those who wait” tweet of Kalimari Desert cus I Mario Kart Tour sure as hell wasn’t the good thing they were talking about.
All I want is Wairo who has a biker outfit to have it if he is on a bike.
Gamefreak was supposed to tell us about isle of armor before sword and shield came out. We don’t like Avery.
