UK charts: Metroid Dread enters at No.3, fastest-selling Metroid game ever in UK

Metroid dread

The latest UK physcial games charts are in and Metroid Dread has performed admirably. While it entered the boxed charts at No.3 (beaten by Far Cry 6 and FIFA 22) it is the fastest-selling Metroid game in the United Kingdom and sold three times that of Metroid: Samus Returns on the Nintendo 3DS platform. It has become the fifth biggest Switch launch behind the likes of Monster Hunter Rise and New Pokemon Snap. Another new release was Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania at No.8 and 70% of its sales were on Nintendo Switch. Here’s the GfK top ten for the week ending 9th October, 2021:

“Metroid Dread on Nintendo Switch is the fastest-selling Metroid game in the UK to-date, eclipsing Metroid Prime 3: Corruption on Nintendo Wii. And that’s without digital sales. It sold three and a half times more copies at launch than the last 2D Metroid Game: Metroid: Samus Returns, which launched on 3DS in 2017, after the Switch had some out.

It’s good news for Metroid, which is one of Nintendo’s smaller franchises, but has a dedicated and vocal fanbase. It is the fifth biggest Nintendo Switch launch of the year, behind Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, Monster Hunter Rise and New Pokémon Snap.”

  1. Good! It’s such a fantastic game and I’m glad more and more people are starting to get into Metroid at last!
It’s a shame it’s still being outsold by utter garbage like FIFA, but that’s to be expected I suppose.

  2. Excellent news for Metroid.
I don’t care what some haters say, but there’s some serious effort gone into dread and it’s just fabulous right from the start. Def one of my favourite switch games right up there with botw and smash.

  3. I’m extremely happy and disappointed at the same time. Thought this would be number 1 but at the same time, metroid isn’t a franchise known for breaking sales records.

Either way, I’m so blown away by how dam good the game is.
