Prestigious magazine TIME has listed their ten best video games of 2021 and it is Samus Aran’s latest 2D adventure, Metroid Dread, which has been given the coveted accolade of Game of the Year. The Nintendo Switch game proved to be a hit with all reviewers and our own giving it a stunning 9.5/10. Here’s what TIME magazine had to say about the latest Metroid adventure on Nintendo Switch.
“When most people think of Nintendo, they conjure up images of kid-friendly characters like Mario and Pikachu. But Samus Aran, badass intergalatic bounty hunter of Metroid fame, has long earned her place on the Mount Rushmore of the company’s characters. And after more than a decade without a proper Metroid game, Samus returned in a big way with this year’s Metroid: Dread, a 2D side-scroller for the Nintendo Switch that sees our hero stalked by artifically intelligent killer robots on the mysterious planet ZDR. Dread, which longtime Metroid producer Yoshio Sakamoto has been cooking up on and off for nearly two decades, is often legit scary—thought not quite on the level as something like an Alien: Isolation—and a delightful return to form for a classic and beloved franchise.”

Nice. That actually sounds like a proper journalist who is familiar with games.
the Game Awards game of the year is Snipperclips 2.0 with a depressing storyline about divorce.
I mean… to be fair, Metroid Dread covers such themes as patricide and genocide.
WHAT?this can’t be real, Metroid Dread is a okay game, it pale in comparion to the masterpice that is Super Metroid.
Because this is Game of the Year 2021, not Game of the Year 1994.
Oh please, Super Metroid is probably one of the most overrated games I’ve ever encountered.
If you take off your nostalgia goggles for a moment you’ll see how poorly it’s aged.
I beg to disagree with your malarkey. Metroid Dread is a beautifully crafted and amazing platform title.
Did you… reply to the wrong person or something? Because it was Super Metroid I was calling overrated, not Dread.
I also think Dread is an amazing game.
after playing Metroid Dread i realized the game is indeed a masterpiece.
YES! Time is a revered magazine, so Metroid Dread’s win here is honestly very good.
My personal GOTY is MH Rise. But Dread would be right behind it. Fantastic game.
Nintendo and the Spanish development studio Mercurysteam truly deserve that award for GOTY from Time Magazine!!!
