Nintendo confirms Shiver in Splatoon 3 isn’t non-binary

shiver from splatoon 3 part of deep cut

Notice: Comments have now been turned off for this particular post due to trolling etc. Thanks to those who got in contact about the comments.

There were quite a few speculative articles when Nintendo revealed Deep Cut which consists of Shiver, Frye and Big Man in Splatoon 3, that Shiver was non-binary. The news spread because some fans noticed that the Kyoto-based company didn’t mention the she/her pronouns during her reveal, however we have since found out that they are used in the actual game. The Verge wanted to get to the bottom of the speculation and find out whether or not Shiver is actually non-binary. The site got an official response from Nate Bihldorff, Nintendo’s SVP of development and publishing, who confirmed to The Verge that Shiver identifies as female. Splatoon 3 launches on 9th September and you can expect our review soonish.

    1. Google is paying $27485 to $29658 reliably for going after the net from home. I joined this hobby 2 months returned and I actually have procured $32648 in my maximum memorable month from this hobby.:[bh+132} I can say my existence has stepped forward totally!

      Look at what I do————➤ http://holdonwork24.blogspot.com

    1. Wait, people just ASSUMED stereo-gender type on a character without confirmation or source?
Talk about double standards and hypocrisy! Am I right lads, or am I right lads?

      1. Actually, most sources people could find online about Shiver either used gender neutral terms for her, or just straight up just referred to her as “Shiver” without any usage of pronouns. It was a reasonable assumption to make with the evidence given.

  1. i dont see the point in deconfirming, let alone people celebrating it being deconfirmed. its a harmless headcanon that made for a positive environment in my experience. a lot of nonbinary people i knew identified with Shiver on that front and i just dont agree with the decision to outright deconfirm it. it was a small thing, but it went a long way

    1. It’s better to deconfirm now and manage expectations before the game comes out with the actual female pronouns in use.

The sting would have been that much worse.

    2. Nonbinary is a dumb concept. I don’t want it inserted to affirm delusions. If it’s a good part of a fiction, no problem. Splatoon ism’t that.

        1. Yes it is. We are allowed to have opinions and can choose to be objective about these things. Be rude if you want, but we won’t shut up for that reason.

      1. Agreed. This was pretty much not a thing 50 years ago, and humanity has existed for a long time.
Biologically, there’s only two genders with the XX and XY chromosomes, with the rarer XXX XXY etc. variants anyhow leaning towards either of the first ones. The trend in society today with genders and such wouldn’t be nearly as normal if it weren’t for hormonal treatment that has come in the recent decades.

        1. Literally everything you said there is a lie. First of all XXX and XXY are not the only intersex types, trans people DID exist 50 years ago and in fact there were Sumerian queens who were transgender. Also hormone therapy has existed over 100 years and the Nazis are the ones who erased all research and progress on trans healthcare(the books they’re burning in the pictures you see are books on transgender healthcare). You’re just playing into the genocidal rhetoric that has popped up against trans people.

    3. Nobody cares about the 41%ers’ feelings. They should be more worried about trying to live past the age of 26 instead of sperging out about whether video game companies are pandering to them.

      1. Hey can someone take down this comment joking about trans suicides? Not a good thing to have up on this site.

    4. It’s fiction. They can still pretend otherwise. The Sequel Trilogy is, unfortunately, official canon but that doesn’t stop me from saying “Fuck that abomination of a trilogy! There’s only the first 2 trilogies & The Clone Wars movie. Everything else is just very bad fan-fic or connected to very bad fan-fic. Rogue One is a fun guilty pleasure, though.” 😆

      1. Did you just go on a completely unprompted rant about random movies from years ago that have nothing to do with what anyone is talking about? Wow you really are mad

  2. The gender camp has had its pants down for a long time and, fortunately, more sane normies and once-swayed women are realizing all of the bizarre far left woman erasure (“pregnant people”) and virulent misogyny happening behind the scenes. Here? The TQ camp literally thought a female wasn’t “feminine” enough to be a girl. Who are the ones really stereotyping?

    1. Not really? I know trans women in Mexico, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, Japan and Brazil. We exist everywhere, and we will continue to be “problems” until we outlive you

  3. I live in the west but it seems like the west is so obsessive of genders and stuff compared to Japan it’s so dumb and stupid, can we just like a character for what they are and instead of heavily obsessing over their sexuality.

      1. You seem to miss the whole point in my comment which is why I mention genders and stuff, don’t pretend like people aren’t obsessive about gender identity, and sexuality here in the west

      2. It has something to do with it. If you are born a certain gender, you are likely to be sexually attracted to the opposite gender.

    1. It’s not a West thing, you’re just bigoted. Trans/nb people have existed all over the world all throughout history. There was a transgender Sumerian queen, prominent trans people in America as far back as the 1800’s and nb people in Japan today. When the Nazi party burned books, the pictures you’ll see on the matter are the Nazis burning the research on transgender healthcare from the Institute for Sexual Research founded by Magnus Herschfield. You just hate trans people

          1. I’ve never been to 4chan. There you go making assumptions again. I think you’re unwittingly guilty of the thing you are fighting against. Seriously, I’m not even trolling at this point.

  4. “confirmed to The Verge that Shiver identifies as female” She doesn’t identify as female, SHE IS A FEMALE, get based mynintendonews, don’t go the kotaku way.

  5. People really shouldn’t have gotten so excited about apparently having a non-binary character in the game until Nintendo themselves officially confirmed it.
Now we’re just gonna get a tonne of salt from the people who automatically assumed their theory/headcanon was true.
Really not the note I wanted the Splatoon 3 community to start on.

  6. Thank you.
Seriously, I never even remotely questioned anything like this at all throughout the game’s marketing.

  7. Well the speculation was fun while it lasted.

I’ll be honest, when Shiver was first revealed, I couldn’t tell if she was male or female, her design truly seemed like it could go either way.

  8. oh my god all the incels in these comments.. “japan isn’t obsessed with gender and sexuality!!1!” i present to you…sailor moon

    1. Literally Noko from Shinsei Kamattechan(a band in Japan) is nonbinary and did multiple songs for the Attack on Titan anime. Hange in Attack on Titan themself is nb as well. These people just hate trans people and will make things up to justify their bigotry

      1. You are a guy whose parents are ashamed of him. If you were born earlier then you would of been helped instead of people abusing you through encouragement of gender dysphoria. People feel deep sadness when they see you and worry that you have some job that involves children.

        1. Nobody encouraged me. I was abused by being put through conversion therapy to “correct” me, yet I came out as trans again anyways because this is who I am. I’m a woman, and I’m proud to be one. I will outlive every one of you transphobes and thrive on the new world amongst the ashes of the old

  9. Mods really need to start looking over all these comments that literally are spouting genocidal rhetoric and denying the existence of entire groups of people. I come here for news on games, not to have people tell me they think I should be dead

    1. Maybe you are wrong instead of the world if you can only interact in heavily censored places.

    2. Slander. I don’t think I’ve read a single comment where someone said you or any trans person should be dead. Correct me if I’m wrong, please, but I don’t see one.

  10. Every time I see comment sections like this I take pride in knowing these people think I’m a monster for my existence as a trans woman and my partner’s as a nb person. Yes, I am a monster, I’m a demon, I’m a threat to everything you hold dear, And I will outlive you all.

    1. I highly recommend you just don’t interact with most of the people here, a lot of them are simply trying to provoke a reaction out of you by saying horrible things. You’re best off just ignoring them.
Don’t give them the satisfaction of angrily replying to them.

      1. That’s true tbh, I’m not so much angrily replying as I am trying to fill this with more trans-positive content. I’ve faced a lot in my life, they can’t hurt me anymore with their robotic filler bigotry I’ve heard a million times over <3

        1. Actually you were lying by saying people were commenting that they wanted you or other trans people dead. No such comments exist so… you were lying…

          1. What they’re talking about is the 41% meme which is a suicide rate among trans people and the “ack!” which is another trans meme about a trans person hanging themself. While they did not outright say they wanted them did, they did speak about it with a tone of indifference.

            1. I’m pretty sure nobody made the comment that they wanted someone else to commit suicide. You’re welcome to correct me if I’m wrong and point out the comment wishing that someone would succumb to suicide. That would absolutely be a comment worth removing and maybe even banning that IP address from commenting again.

              1. “Nobody cares about the 41%ers’ feelings. They should be more worried about trying to live past the age of 26 instead of sperging out about whether video game companies are pandering to them.”

All it takes is a look at the comments section and a Google search.

                1. Despite being abrasive, that comment did not advocate or wish for the death/suicide of anyone. In fact, they said they should be worried about it.

And I already googled “ack meme” and got a bunch of Mars Attacks images. I’m not gonna feel bad about not recognizing some obscure meme from a website I don’t even visit. But if this meme has the message of promoting suicide then yeah, that should be removed although… again, it seems like a pretty obscure reference.

But let’s not beat around the bush. No one here actually wished for the death/suicide of any trans person or otherwise. There’s just a lot of rude comments not affirming the trans lifestyle. Criticize that if you want. Don’t make up things that didn’t happen.

                  1. First up, you’re the one twisting my words and making stuff up that I said. I literally started my argument with they did not outright say it but brought it up with an indifference, so I don’t know why you’re trying to refute my argument on that front when I clarified that in my very first post. I also don’t get how you can see the comment that says “nobody cares about their feelings” and not see it as something malicious. It is not a good intentioned post at all if you see a suicide crime statistic and outright refer to the person as that number while also saying you don’t care about the way they feel. I don’t really see why that needs explaining.

                    1. Because “nobody cares about their feelings” isn’t saying someone should die/suicide. Death and suicide are SERIOUS subjects. We can’t just put strong words in someone else’s mouth when they didn’t say it.

I’m sorry if it seemed like I twisted your words. I recognize that you said that. I was just reaffirm my original to the person who claimed that people were saying they think “I [as a trans person] should be dead.” It’s just simply untrue and I felt inclined to mention it. We just simply can’t live in a world where we accuse or assume everyone who doesn’t like us also wants us dead. It continues a cycle of hate and distrust.

But I’ve said my piece at this point and I’m going to stop checking this thread. You’ll just have to judge by what I’ve already said.

                      1. Dude, I literally, and I mean literally said they did not outright say it. I am not going to argue about anything else until you stop fixating on this and acting like I said they dude, because this is the third time I am saying this. Dude seriously, wtf.

                      2. Sorry, I reread your second paragraph and somehow missed it the first time around when I was still waking up. I still think it’s weird you were framing your comments like that when you know what I was trying to say, but I still retain the opinion that referring to somebody as the suicide rate can’t be anything but malicious.

        2. Exactly, it feels like someone made a thread on /v/ which caused a few anons to visit the comments section. Don’t react emotionally to the trolls since they feed off of that stuff.

    2. All the transphobia in the comments aside I am EXTREMELY excited for Splatoon 3 regardless of Shiver being nb or not(future games could always have nb characters and there’s no way to know if some characters in the series already aren’t trans or nb anyways), the Splatfest is this weekend y’all! Team Rock for life
