Nintendo issues statement regarding cancellation of Smash World Tour

News emerged the other day that Nintendo had abruptly decided to cancel the Smash World Tour by the means of a cease and desist, the move took the organisers of the event by surprise and has apparently left them with financial debts due to the last minute cancellation of the event. The company issued a statement to IGN regarding why they decided to revoke their license for the Smash World Tour event which you can read down below.

“The decision was solely based on our assessment of the proposals submitted by the SWT and our evaluation of their unlicensed activities. Any partner that we grant a license to has to meet the high standards we require when it comes to the health and safety of our fans.”

“It’s also important that a partner adheres to brand and IP guidelines and conducts itself according to professional and organizational best practices. We use this same approach to independently assess all partners. If we discover that a partner is doing something inappropriate, we will work to correct it.”

  1. Y’all gotta remember that some of these players and organizers have done some illicit things like wanting to adult things with underage people and it’s something Nintendo doesn’t want people to correlate to them.

    1. Yeah it’s honestly super weird how this community just keeps reappearing and complaining how Nintendo treats them with competitive smash and yet all that drama happen around the same time when the bullying, sexual abuse and grooming things were going on within the community and all that stuff has been overlook by the community itself.

  2. I think a lot of Smash fans are blind to the corruption in their camp.
In what world would Nintendo want to associate with soap dodgers, pedos and psychos?
Players like Nairo and Zero alone would make me pull out like an irresponsible baby father.

  3. I don’t blame them. That Smash community is very toxic and has seen it’s fair share of groomers. I wouldn’t want to associate with them either.

I’ve seen some people say that Smash’s high popularity is due to the Smash esports community, but I think Smash is popular in spite of this community.

    1. Smash’s esport potential is high because it’s so popular, not the other way around. The vast majority of people who play smash do not play it competitive or even plan to.

  4. “You can’t operate without a license and we won’t give you one. “But we never said you have to cancel the event.” In other words, “Choose to cancel, or get sued.”
