Patricia Summersett says being the voice of Princess Zelda “has been next level”

Talented voice actress Patricia Summerset has talked to IGN about what it has been like to be the voice of Princess Zelda in both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and the newly released The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and how playing the role has changed her life. Summerset reminisced about when she was called to a mysterious casting call in the mid-2010s, which eventually ended up with her becoming the voice Princess Zelda. She also talked a little about how the fandom has embraced her since The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild launched on Nintendo Switch and Wii U in March 2017.

About being cast for the role of Zelda:

“It just looked like an RPG fantasy,” said Summersett. “I didn’t have any other information than that it was for a princess character who had a lot of weight on her shoulders.I have a feeling that if I knew what it was, I would’ve overthought the process,” she said. “I’m happy I went in blind.”

How being the voice of Princess Zelda has changed things:

“In some rooms, nothing changes. I have a very ordinary life. In other rooms, you’re moving through space differently. In terms of fandom, playing Zelda has been next level. I’ve traveled the world and seen fans everywhere,” said Summersett. “It’s fascinating to see the differences and similarities people from different countries celebrate the franchise. You become a symbol for people. It’s not so much about you, but how much they love the series. You get to be the person they shake hands with. I have a special place in my brain for all the Zelda tattoos people have shown me. I wish I could thank them all.”

  1. She should honestly be proud of being able to voice a character in a renowned series such as Zelda; not everyone gets chance to.

I’d be incredibly honored to voice a character in a huge series once I begin my VA career. A pipe dream of mine is to be the English voice for Captain Falcon should a new F-Zero ever be a thing.
