Japanese news site The Nikkei is reporting this afternoon that Nintendo’s new development building, which is located next to its headquarters, opening date has been pushed back. The building will now be 13-storeys as Nintendo anticipates it will be recruiting more development staff than they originally envisioned. Nintendo initially said that Corporate Headquarters Development Centre Building No 2. would be a 12-storey building with a total floor area of 38.000 square meters. However, this has now changed. The tentatively titled Corporate Headquarters Development Centre Building No 2. is not expected to be complete until after 2028.

“The development resources required per piece of software are now increasing. We would like to maintain the level of recruitment of the past few years.”

Nintendo president, Shuntaro Furakawa

  1. Feels like Nintendo is preparing for the generation after the supposed Switch 2. Larger development teams for the games you see on PS5 and Series X, in a reasonable time, knowing it’s their first party software that keeps sales rolling.

  2. Does this mean they will start utilizing there franchises , instead of pumping out the same games over and over? And possibly make proper games aswell that don’t use 10+ year old technology? I don’t know how much space they have now , compared to how much it will be?
