Sea of Stars sold 100,000 copies on day of release

The long-awaited pixel art adventure Sea of Stars received some excellent review scores earlier this week, just before the game launched across multiple platforms, with critics comparing it to some of the strongest RPG entries in the 16-bit era. The game finally released yesterday and sales have been tallied and it has already sold 100,000 copies across digital marketplaces, including the Nintendo eShop. The developer Sabotage Studios has thanked fans and have said they are absolutely speechless at the number of copies sold.

  1. I kickstarted it and this might be the first game that I kick started that I’ve gotten to play and enjoy. And I’ve really been enjoying it! The combat is fun though I feel like the timed hits aren’t nearly forgiving enough. Fortunately there’s a relic you can get early on that always times your normal hits properly. I don’t like that I have to use it, but otherwise I’m just wasting time as I never seem to be able to land them. (Despite having played Mario RPG and always landing them!)

The story seems very cute so far, it very much reminds me of the best parts of Chrono Trigger, Mario RPG, and Golden Sun. I’m only a few hours in but I’m loving it. (Would have appreciated a less story heavy tutorial though.)

I also like the fact that you’ve got your not skinny buddy tagging along. A nice little bit of representation that normally does not happen in video games.

I should stop writing this and go back to playing!
