Metal Gear Solid 2 on Switch sometimes jumps up to 60 FPS

The Metal Gear Solid cast

The long-awaited Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1 is now available across all platforms. While the lack of enhancements has been criticised, the games themselves still stand the test of time. YouTube channel Switch UP produced a nice little analysis of the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1 running on Nintendo Switch and found that in some instances in Metal Gear Solid 2 the frame rate randomly jumps from 30fps to 60fps which goes to show that the games could have possibly been optimised to run at a higher framerate than the standard 30fps, but Konami settled for whatever reason on 30fps.

      1. All Konami cares about putting effort into now is mobile games. They came right out and said it. This is a nostalgia cash grab for greedy assholes.

The reason is laziness, plain and simple. Ask Jim Sterling what he thinks of Konami.

Just one of his many videos covering awful Konami.

        1. No it is not a problem. If I did find it a problem then my life would be over because how dare anyone think otherwise! LGBT community is always right, after all. So yeah not a problem.

          1. No they’re not always right, what does that even mean? You’re the one bringing gender into the equation in the first place. Come for someone based on the merits of their arguments, not their sexuality or gender identity.

    1. It’s not really laziness. Unlike mgs1 (which was hard coded to fun at 30 and can’t be changed without a code rewrite) or mgs3 (which was just locked at 30 on ps2), mgs2 always ran at 60. The switch is more than capable of outperforming the PS2 and Xbox 360, both of which had mgs2 at 60 fps; it would have taken LESS effort, in fact, to lock the framerate. They didn’t even do it right.

That being said, it’s still a good game and it runs fine. Maybe it’ll be fixed in that patch they’ve been promising. Even if not, there’s more urgent issues with the collection anyway (mgs1 forced bilinear filtering, mgs2/3 locked at 720p on pc, etc).
