Super Mario RPG is beloved by many, and some of you may not know that the original game initially had a Three Musketeers theme, which was scrapped in favor of what we have now. Thankfully, ex-Super Mario RPG developer Jiro Mifune has found and shared some of his concept images for the Super Nintendo game, and they look thoroughly awesome. Check out these early concept images below.

Kinda makes me question why these ideas wasn’t included in the Super Mario RPG Remake, unless it’s part of the post game content from the Remake that im not aware of . I complete the campaign for Super Mario RPG but not the post game content.
Im also curious why they don’t have Luigi in the Remake, he was in the original SNES instruction manual and they have photos with Luigi from the beta yet he’s not in the Og Super Mario RPG.
I get that back then Luigi wasn’t as popular as he is nowadays, in that case why isn’t he a party member in the Remake.
I assume these were initial sketches for the original game while it was in the planning phase at Square Enix 😊
Really weird questions you’re asking, they “Remade” the game why would they add stuff that wasnt in the original or change it? Its a 1:1 remake with some additional stuff for post game
Purists would probably have hated it. That’s bad for marketing.. 3 musketeers isn’t really the point of the game anymore since you have more than 3 people on your team. The point of a remake is to completely overhaul the game and remake it using modern techniques and design trends. It should 1-up its predecessor in every way but also feel like the same game in spirit.
I wonder if this was the inspiration for Peach’s Musketeer outfit for Princess Peach: Showtime.
