Ever since the game was released following Nintendo‘s September 2023 Direct, F-Zero 99 has been receiving a slow but gradual feed of updates with additional content and various bug fixes. Most of the updates were previously announced by Nintendo, but the game now has a lot of content it didn’t have at launch.
Well, it wasn’t announced in advance by Nintendo, but F-Zero 99 has received another new update tonight. Once you update, the game should be at version 1.2.0. This update adds Private Lobbies as a new feature, as well as some new secret tracks. The patch notes can be seen down below.
New Additions
- Private Lobbies have been added. To utilize them, select a game mode, set a 4-digit passcode, and then join the lobby. Players with matching game modes and passcodes can meet in the same lobby to race.
- Private Lobby race results are not reflected in leaderboard points, records, or challenge progress. Also, you will receive less EXP and fewer ticket points than in regular races.
- Secret Tracks have been added. These will occasionally appear in F-ZERO 99.
- Maximum level and skill rating for players have increased. The maximum level has increased from 99 to 399 and maximum skill rating has increased from S20 to S50.
- Levels 100 and above are indicated in the game as ☆ = 1. For example, “☆00” for level 100 and “☆☆00” for level 200.
- Added one badge that can be used to customize Pilot Cards. After meeting the specified conditions, you will be able to use it for customization.
- You can check the specified conditions and perform customization by selecting WORKSHOP on the main menu, and then selecting PILOT CARDS.

I love seeing this continue to receive support. Should a true new F-Zero release for the Switch’s successor, I would hope that will see the same kind of treatment.
I’ve been playing F-Zero 99 a lot and I find this very interesting. I wonder how much further they’ll take the game in terms of tracks and machines and little extras. Hopefully I’ll find out what these secret tracks are very soon and if they signify anything else. Are they pulling from other entries in the franchise? They’ve shown nothing of the lore though other than the areas and some images. It really makes me want a new F-Zero even more knowing the countless possibilities it has to offer instead of 99. I really am anxious about what’s coming.
