Yuji Horii: Dragon Quest XII ‘I want it to be worthy of Toriyama & Sugiyama’s posthumous work’

One of the major video games that we are still waiting to see is Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate which was announced by Square Enix in May 2021. As today is Dragon Quest Day, Dragon Quest series creator, Yuji Horii, took to social media platform X and shared a brief update on his plans for the long-awaited game.

“Thank you so much to everyone for the many [Dragon Quest Day] congratulations! There has been some worry about Dragon Quest XII, but I was actually in a meeting [about it] until just a bit ago. While I can’t share any details yet, I want it to be something worthy of the posthumous work of the two [Akira Toriyama and Koichi Sugiyama] who passed away. I’ll do my best!”

  1. I fear if they change too much of the traditional combat known in the DQ series then they will lose a lot of their fanbase.

  2. How about a Dragon Quest game that plays like Xenoblade Chronicles?
I hate that good ideas like this go ignored forever, similar to that clown Hideki Kamiya at blocking me on X years ago, before he left Platinum, because I asked if it was possible for Platinum to collaborate with Sega to make a new Shinobi game similar to Bayonetta and Nier Automata.
If anyone is curious, yes, he actually blocked me for asking a simple question, and no, I never spammed him with questions.
