Yoshi-P: Team is making progress on Final Fantasy XIV for “Nintendo consoles”

In a new interview with Game Reactor, Yoshi-P, the acclaimed director behind the hit MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV, has said that the development team is working on and making progress on bringing the game to “Nintendo consoles.” This is most likely for the successor to the Nintendo Switch, which is set to be revealed by Nintendo before March 2025. Final Fantasy XIV is available on PC, Mac, PlayStation and Xbox.

“I’m sure that all of the media and our players probably suspecting they really want to have our game release on Nintendo’s consoles, but the concept that we have for Final Fantasy XIV is to release our game on as many devices as possible.”

“So looking towards achieving that goal. We are working towards, making progress and we are having discussions. So I hope that everyone can look forward to news in the time to come.”

  1. The wording doesn’t quite confirm progress on Nintendo’s console is being made (worth noting by the way, he doesn’t say “Nintendo’s consoles” plural like the text states in this article and the source—according to the translator in the video, he says “Nintendo’s console”, singular—he could mean people wanting it for the current console or next one). Even watching the video, it’s maybe sorta hinted at by saying there are discussions and news to announce later, but that could be for PS6 for all we know. Or other devices. Saying people want it for Nintendo’s console followed by “but the concept that we have for Final Fantasy XIV is to release our game on as many devices as possible” is confusing, though it could just be a poor translation or just wrong choice of words from Yoshi-P (maybe it should have been “and” instead of “but”). It just sounds like yeah, we could do Nintendo’s console, but we wanna aim for as many devices as possible so that’s where our priorities are (outside of Nintendo’s console).

I’m sure it’s likely, but just saying it’s not exactly clear or confirmed. Let’s not get our hopes up too much yet!

  2. This is a mistake. The game already has a history of technical and performance problems related to having originally been developed for PS3. And now they’re talking about potentially putting it on another console which is hilariously weak and would be an albatross arounds its neck for years to come.

    1. Do you not understand that switch 2 is coming out near year, and is projected to be as powerful, if not more powerful, than a PS4?

    1. ugh, no, just no, keep that garbage off of the switch 2. FFXVI is an embarassment like ffxiii+ and ffxv, it needs to just go away.

  3. I have an active FFXIVARR+ Legacy account since 1.0 (actually 4 active accounts, 2 of which are 1.0 Legacy accounts) and I am saying this from the bottom of my heart, ever since FFXIV was forcibly taken from Tanaka, Yoshi-P has turned it into garbage, don’t spread any Yoshi-P games to any Nintendo console, he has no business touching any FF game since everything he touches turns to crap.

    1. Ahh the rare 1.0 apologist, just as delusional as the prophecy fortold.
Tanaka was a hack fraud who almost killed FF14 right from it’s inception, and rightfully got replace by Yoshida who has elevated the game to the current most played and one of the highly regarded MMOs of all time.
You are completely delusional and have awful taste in games if you see 1.0 as anything other than what it objectively was: a steaming pile of garbage.
