Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director discusses idea of new Final Fantasy spin-offs

UK news publisher The Daily Star recently caught up with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director, Naoki Hamaguchi, at The Golden Joystick Awards to ask him a range of questions related to the second entry in the highly anticipated trilogy of games. Mr. Hamaguchi says that the team is fully focussed on development of the third entry, but he wouldn’t rule out exploring the world of Final Fantasy once work on the project has been completed. Mr. Hamaguchi says that there are plenty of worlds and characters to explore within the brand which haven’t been fully explored yet.

“I want it [Remake Chapter 3] to come out as quickly as possible and then move on maybe to look at some other stories, dig a bit deeper. There’s definitely a call out there to see other spotlights on other parts of the world and the universe, different characters, so I’d like to maybe switch to looking at them in a different way after we’ve got the third game out.”

  1. Ugh. Not every detail has to be explained for every single thing with tons of spinoffs. This will likely just ruin the classics. There’s always potential for something cool but I’d prefer they leave them alone.

  2. Honestly should have seen this coming. The newer main line titles just aren’t selling like the old ones did. So they want to go back and Bank on nostalgia and in the meantime all they’re going to do is put stuff in that nobody asked for and most likely ruin the original story of goodness knows how many classics. Because it’s not going to be what people expect and want.
