Pokemon TCG Pocket team says inappropriate player names are unacceptable

A new notification players are greeted with when opening up the popular Pokemon Trading Cards Game Pocket warns them that offensive or lewd names are unacceptable and that the team will take action and presumably change them. This applies to player names which “are currently causing discomfort to other users.” Here’s what the new notification in Pokemon TCG Pocket tells users:

“In accordance with the Terms of Use, we will change player names of the accounts in question and will warn them, suspend their accounts, or take other action. We will continue to strive to provide an environment where everyone can safely and comfortably enjoy their experience. We hope you continue to enjoy Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket.”

  1. Accounts with Inappropriate names need be perma banned without warning, why is this something new? More important, why does it even allow the account to be created in the first place if it recognizes that the username is inappropriate. Most inappropriate screen names go without being penalized unless a snitch reports it to moderation.

  2. People are way too sensitive. Getting outraged and clutching your pearls is exactly the wanted effect of those names.

  3. So let me get this straight? You guys could figure out how to limit what names could be used in SINGLE PLAYER GAMES but released a worldwide online game and didn’t bother to limit offensive names? I don’t expect much from the pokemon company but God damn that’s a new low.
