Shenmue 3 survey asks if fans want Switch version along with other platforms

The long-awaited third entry in the beloved Shenmue series was released in 2019 and while it didn’t reach the acclaim of the original games, it was a welcome addition to the previously dormant franchise. The game was produced by Yu Suzuki and the team at Ys Net who managed to acquire the license from SEGA. Fast forward to today and Ys Net have produced a survey asking if gamers would like to see the game on modern formats such as the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as the original was released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. If you would like to see the game come to the Nintendo Switch family of systems then be sure to fill in the survey.

  1. What? This game never came to Xbox One. Shenmue 3’s publication rights just moved to ININ, a European studio that Yu Suzuki is fond of. Reportedly he had a lot of frustrations with Deep Silver, who initially published Shenmue 3. Adam Koralik predicted that this would be one of the first things to happen in the move – ports to PS5 and Xbox.

  2. It’s hard to imagine that it would take over 30 years to plan a story. Sega’s business strategy back in the day was unfortunate, and the strange decisions and management from today’s team only make people more anxious than existed. My Dad isn’t here to see the ending after all this time, and he liked the games, and if there had been a proper timeline for wrapping up the story, people like him could have experienced it too.

I think it’s dangerous to adopt a mentality that excuses delays with phrases like ‘it’s ready when it’s ready,’ because it creates a system that preys on people’s hopes and expectations. Giving a company with little structure free passes repeatedly conditions them to either not rush enough or fail to focus properly. They need to be held to a standard.

This isn’t ‘delayed gratification’—it’s a culmination of poor timing, bad management, and decisions driven by money.
