Retro Studios staff names removed from end credits in Donkey Kong Country Returns HD

Nintendo has removed individual Retro Studios employee names in the end credits in the soon-to-be-released Nintendo Switch version of Donkey Kong Country Returns. The end credits for Donkey Kong Country Returns HD now simply say “Based on the work of the original development staff” and credit the current team at Forever Entertainment. A similar thing happened to former Retro Studios employees in Metroid Prime Remastered for the Nintendo Switch in which the original Retro Studios development team’s names were omitted from the end credits. 1. I’m going to let you all in on a little secret here… nobody reads the credits in video games. In fact, 9 times out of 10, a player will skip the credits if given the option and, the ones who don’t, are only enjoying any accompanying graphics, media, and/or music that’s playing.

    Let’s just be honest here.

      1. Well, the article clearly states they were credited, just not individually. They had nothing to do with this version of the game, not sure what is so hard to understand about this.

        1. The retro team made the literal game from the ground up, what’s not to get here? Of course they should be credited. Both teams should be clearly credited and I don’t know how Nintendo fans can even feel this is worthy of debate.

          1. Yeah, but this game has almost nothing common with the original other than title and graphics.

Game was moved to completely different engine. Forever did a really good job, game looks great

        1. Lots of strange comments. 🤨 Some getting real tilted over this.

No one watches or cares about credits anymore!! Says who? Some do care, whether you do or not. This is really indicative of the age we live in now. That dismissive attitude regarding creation. It comes off as very childish. Who cares who made it or how it was made, right. You don’t have to care or bother with credits. THAT IS FINE. But they need to exist, even if it is just an option to view them in a menu. You don’t seem to understand how easy it is to be forgotten. This is how it happens.

Re: movie studio staff and hands aren’t credited? So? That’s not any good either. Everyone deserves their due lol I don’t see how this is a good argument. There shouldn’t be one at all.

They could have at least cited the studio name, which even it was omitted according to this article. They built the original game. I have played ports that went to the trouble of listing the original developers too; it doesn’t take up space like it used to. It boils down to honor and respect. Nintendo has the rights to it all, so I guess it doesn’t matter. But I worry about the direction we are heading in as a whole if this is the reaction.

          1. What people don’t realize is that credits are not for your ordinary person to view. It’s mostly so that people who contributed to something have their name out there, and it tells people in the industry what they can bring to their project.

  2. That is messed up and I was hoping a 3rd game was coming to Switch 2 with the Kremlings but that might be a pipe dream now.

              1. At what point do you guys will defend Nintendo? “WELL TECHNICALLY THEY HAVENT DEVELOPED ANYTHING FOR THIS VERSION” bro they made the whole game in the first place

      1. Yes they ported the Wii version to the 3ds and add new content so the HD version is made by the just that Nintendo won’t credit individuals anymore and most people know these days don’t even read the credits which is a shame.

  3. My god but how can you focus on this kind of uninteresting case?….
If you knew the number of artists who have participated in the production of a movie/series/video games without being credited, you will be surprised…
And by that I mean people who participated in it during the production not like this case where it wasn’t the original team that took care of it

  4. I can’t believe that Osama Bin Laden isn’t credited in the 9/11 movie when he clearly developed the original.

  5. Can you guys not fucking read or something? Not being individually credited isn’t the same as not being credited. They’re still being credited. JFC, grow up
