Former Platinum Games producer Hideki Kamiya has taken to X to rant about the Nintendo Switch 2 leakers who spoiled today’s reveal for some people. To say Kamiya was furious with them could be seen as a bit of an understatement. You can read the Okami sequel developer’s thoughts about the subject down below.

Yeah, I get it. But when it’s something as huge as the switch 2 it’s gona be very difficult to keep everything under wraps. Someone, somewhere is gona leak something as is the case. Unfortunately for Nintendo too many people/companies have to get involved with certain info when getting ready for a new major console.
The reveal wasn’t spoiled for me, it was nice to just have it officially and the best look at the console yet. I want one now!

This guy kinda has the temper of a petulant child. Tons of people were interested in Switch 2 details. If anything, you could argue Nintendo took really long. Like his games tho.

As always Kamiya proves he is the most unprofessional professional in the industry. At least he gives us a good chuckle with his bluntness.

While it’s technically unprofessional, I actually do think there’s value in Kamiya’s bluntness. He’s willing to speak out in a way that goes against how you’d expect someone of his position to talk about any situation.
On the other hand, he could tone it down a bit with his colorful language. There’s being blunt, then there’s being crude, then there’s being cruel, and then there’s Kamiya.

The switch 2 is basically no different than the original. They could have kept it all a complete secret and nothing would have been exciting in the least. It’s got magnets now. Neat.

What leaks? That’s it’s the same console but slightly bigger and powerful? Yeah… how could they… I fail to see the big deal about this
Leakers are announcing info without companies’ approval. That is wrong by itself, no matter the type of information. It only harms the company and all for clout.
Except what was announced was what fans have been speculating ever since 2020, so if there was any “harm” it was Nintendo not being innovative nothing. Nothing to do with the leaks that basically said “the Switch 2 is a Switch”.
It doesn’t matter if it is what fans were speculating, nothing was semi-confirmed until these leaks appeared. Leakers are wrong, it is not even legal to do this and they keep doing it. Doesn’t matter if they are leaking something similar or not.
And it doesn’t matter if the leakers reveal the information or if Nintendo reveals it. At the end of the day, public reaction will be “Oh, it’s a slightly larger Switch” with what they showed us.
The point is that leakers doesn’t have the right to do this. Simple.
And? Who cares?
Many people care, including the companies. When things leak, it can harm their plans internally or externally. It does not matter if it is a product with big or small changes.
It maybe the same as the Switch but this one will have 4K resolution and 60FPS for running their games.
To be fair. Nintendo is the only one we have these expectations from. PS has released the same console with stronger specs since the 90s and so has Xbox. But every time they announced a new console, everyone awaits with perked ears like something is going to be different 🤷
I don’t know why people want some awe inspiring gimmick for a system. The Wii was the only system where the hardware itself changed how we interacted with it, every other console the gimmick is usually forgotten within a week by its consumers before they focus only on the new games. Not even the Switch changed things that much. Almost everyone I know exclusively plays it on handheld or on their TV instead of actively switching it. What should be the draw is the games, everything else is superficial unless if the hardware itself is flimsy… and it would be a MAJOR selling point if they announced they solved the overheating and drift issues. That would be more important than any type of “innovation”.
They probably just want to stick their nose into people’s business because they knew Nintendo will be the only company to get their plans expose by the leaks before it gets confirmed to the public.
I agree wholeheartedly. I’m all for innovation, but there’s a thin line between innovation and gimmick, and most hardware developers havent landed on innovation in a long time. Again, I’m all for a stronger switch. So hopefully it’s as strong as a PS4 (wishful hoping, a series S) but we’ll see.
I kind of agree with Kamiya but they could have posted a more tactful post on X and kept it professional, then again that’s what happens when they take forever revealing it.
I mean I can get caught up in the hype too, but I agree! It would be better if Nintendo announced it on their terms. The surprise reveal had no charisma to its reveal because we aside from the somewhat expected Mario Kart 9 (I’m assuming) there was no surprises. It looks, plays, and functions like the leaks. There’s nothing special here and I understand this man’s frustration and Nintendo’s frustration too.
The leakers need to go. I saw one years ago saying “people acting like they were promised something” but they were. They just weren’t promised it by the company.
It is not finding out information ahead of time that people have a problem with. It is boasting about the information and making as much noise as possible. That guy chanting “hype responsibly” needs a reality check. The leakers promised a Switch 2 reveal today and it almost looks like it was not going to happen.

Honestly; He’s right, it’s bad enough that people leak stuff but then you get sites (Looking at you MNN) that only broadcast these leaks giving future leakers more incentive to leak stuff.

Honestly, I don’t get why some of y’all are getting mad at MNN for reporting on rumors- even professional newspapers report on rumors. This is just a part of journalism. If every video game news site stopped reporting on these types of rumors, leaks wouldn’t magically stop. There are plenty of big sites where people leak insider info.
Yeah it sucks for the companies and in some cases the employees of said companies, but that’s for the companies to deal with, not the news reporters.
It’s difficult for companies to manage this when people don’t apply their request which is “not to reveal anything”…so it’s people who are the problem, not Nintendo…
It’s a news site, what do you expect them to do? Close an eye because it’s morally wrong to share leaks? Blame Nintendo for always doing a horrible job at not leaking stuff and blame the leakers who leaked it in the first, MNN is just the messenger
Sorry but he’s wrong. Nintendo were far too slow. The trailer that came on the 16th of January could have been produced and shared, to start hyping interest mid to late 2024. Had it been Nintendo that leaked the factually correct information, no one would have any issue with it. But since everyone was kept waiting, and things that were true leaked out, all of a sudden it’s terrible. Companies just need to start waking up, speeding up, and sharing.
Perhaps it was someone at Nintendo who leaked the info. And if that were the case, there would absolutely be a problem. Why do you think there wouldn’t be a problem?

Nintendo bends to its calendar, its decisions, they are not going to change them under the pretext that you are impatient, it’s grotesque there and if you don’t understand why it didn’t take place at the end of the year, think about what happens during this period!
On the other hand, the leaks probably come from Nintendo employees themselves (and if that’s the case, they can start looking for another job) and if that’s the case, I doubt that we will see such leaks again, they will surely crack down like they did with the source of Pyoro.
