Japan: Donkey Kong Country Returns HD debuts at #1

It’s that time of the week again where its time to find out how video gaming hardware and physical gaming software did in Japan. Famitsu has decided to release the latest boxed video game and hardware charts. This time, it’s for for the week of January 13th to 19th. As usual, both of these sales charts are followed by lifetime sales.

This week was a very successful one for Nintendo. Out of the 10 games listed on the software sales chart, 7 of them are Switch games. One of those games is Donkey Kong Country Returns HD. This is the first weekly gaming charts to be posted by Famitsu since the game released, and it has debuted on the charts at #1. Meanwhile, the Switch OLED model was #1 on the hardware sales charts. Both software and hardware sales charts can be seen down below.

  1. If this isn’t a sign we need a 3rd part to the trilogy I don’t know what is. I wish they could buy the rights to the Kremlings I would look to see this new teams take on them.

    1. Nintendo does own the rights to the Kremlings- if they didn’t they couldn’t have appeared in the spinoff games like Barrel Blast or Mario Super Sluggers. As to WHY they won’t use them in mainline entries, I have no idea.

  2. For information, it is the owner of the development studio who owns the new or not licenses of the said studio…
    A first-party developer doesn’t own anything if Microsoft owns banjo & kazooi as well as other licenses developed by Rare like Killer Instinct it’s because Nintendo sold them too, asking about the possible rights to the Kremlings is just absurd….

    Otherwise what made me laugh is the ridiculous sales of the Ps5 compared to the switch… And in total between 3 of them, they barely exceed the sales of the Switch Lite in Japan….
