It has been a long time since we got a big budget Castlevania video game, despite it being a huge franchise and having a successful animated Netflix show. Now a new rumour is doing the rounds online suggesting that Konami is preparing to revive the franchise in the same way it is doing with the Metal Gear Solid series. Portuguese site Geekinout says a new AAA game in the Castlevania series is on the way and that it will be officially announced in 2025. As always this a rumour so we will have to wait and see what transpires.

As an old school gamer who’s been around for all of it. I want it to go back to its roots. Bring back the “Conan barbarian” influenced, Simon Belmont. Make it like the OG timeline with the 70/80’s high fantasy world.
The last real Castlevanias were ages ago on Nintendo DS.🤷♂️ I wonder if the series will ever make the jump to 3D.

Ok so I have 3 IPs that I want brought back from the dead. Mega-Man, Castlevania, and Ninja Gaiden.
How I’m doing? If true I have 2/3 and I seriously can’t believe I’m getting them. Like seriously I feel so god damn lucky. I’m an old school gamer and these IPs seriously needed a revival.

Will it be an ACTUAL Castlevania game, or will it be more absolute garbage that nobody asked for or wants? I’m looking at you, Lords of Shadow. Nobody wanted a retcon, and nobody asked for God of War in our franchise. Just go back, look at the GBA, NDS, 3DS games, and follow their story. I feel like they’re going to try and take a popular IP and just slap some Castlevania related stuff on it and be like “There, now it’s art!”

Nobody asked? Actually the future of this franchise is Demon Souls / Elden Ring / God of War. Atleast if you want to modernize the genre and make it 3d. Lord of Shadows wasnt great but thats because it wasnt on the same level as previous named games. In fact people have been asking to let From Software make a Castlevania for ages.
Personally all the 2d stuff is cool , same for the last Metroid but those don’t feel like modern big triple A titles and we have already played all that stuff in the 90s and they feel like indie games + there way to short. If you want to go modern and 3d than Demon Souls / Elden Ring set the bar in my opinion and I think those games are made for a modern Castlevania and what the franchise deserves. 2d is a niche market a well made 3e version puts it on the world stage.
LoS is Garbage?? Lolz. Did you play through to completion? It’s the Best Castlevania. You don’t need to stick with old mechanics and sidescrolling to have a good successor to your favorite games from the late 80’s early 90’s.
