It is now just 2 and a half weeks before Nintendo will be giving the Switch 2 a more detailed unveiling via the upcoming Switch 2 Direct. In the meantime, Switch 2 news has been primarily patents, FCC filings and rumors. The patents and FCC filings have been particularly interesting as this is, perhaps, the closest we’ll get to official confirmation from Nintendo for the time being.
This time, it’s not necessarily a new patent. It’s actually an update to a patent already posted. However, the updated patent now adds information regarding AI resolution upscaling. It is worth noting that this isn’t the controversial generative AI, but a method for resolution upscaling that isn’t native. While this technology could be used for Switch 2 games, it is much more likely that this may be used to enhance Switch 1 games being played on the Switch 2.
Of course, while this is a patent from Nintendo, there’s still room to keep an open mind. Nintendo hasn’t actually properly spoken about the matter yet, and outside of the patent itself, there’s more speculation from this than any concrete information. Nevertheless, this has been rumored previously, so this only adds more evidence that this is something that Nintendo will likely bring up in their Switch 2 Direct on April 2nd. That all said, you can see a picture of the patent update down below.

In the immortal words of Arte Johnson, “Very interesting.”
April 2nd is just around the corner and I’m looking forward to Nintendo Switch 2 and its games during the Nintendo Direct.
“I understood that reference.”
Makes value sense to me.
Upscaling on su. 720p resolution. Ugh nintendo and their outdated hardware lmao
Do you not have a social life or something?
Most people here don’t.
Sounds like you’re projecting pretty hard there my dude lmaooo
The difference between you and me… is you’re saying the same crap everytime there’s positive news from Nintendo. Grow up and get with the program!
Nice. I’ve been holding off on playing through some of my Switch backlog because I was hoping for something like this on the Switch 2
MAN, I CAN NOT WAIT!!!!
Guess I’ll be playing through Breath of the Wild FOR AN 8TH TIME if Switch 2 upscales OG Switch games.
nice nice. i already know this console is gonna be my favorite of all time. i just needed a more powerful switch and im getting exactly that
If Switch games are upscaled for Switch 2, I have a feeling I’ll be revisiting The Witcher III.
It’s only a matter of time now.
I see the “AI le bad” fad is finally dead. Nice.
I assure you, it isn’t. This is an instance where AI is applied in a good way. You will never see me praising AI voiceover in commercial products.
Some AI is fine.
If it’s used intelligently to improve visuals or boost productivity without harming the end product, it’s fine. Using it as a supplemental tool like Photoshop and others is fine as long as it doesn’t harm quality.
If it’s used to replace an existing job (or a potential job in some cases), then it’s very bad since there’s a general lack of QC involved with AI tech. For example, there’s shoddy “vibe” code generated by AI that can’t be explained by the prompter, AI voices that are generally inferior to the real deal, AI art that STILL can’t get all anatomy right on the first go (and lack of QC that led to a hand in the recent Fantastic Four movie poster having an incorrect number of fingers), and many other examples of AI being misused that would harm the overall quality of the product.
If it’s used to lazily complete the job or replace human talent, then AI is bad. If it’s used to supplement an already good product and/or make productivity higher while not reducing the overall quality, then it’s fine.
This patent update hints at Nintendo’s serious commitment to next-gen visuals, especially with AI resolution upscaling. It aligns with broader industry trends where hardware relies more on AI to boost performance efficiently. The updated Nintendo Switch 2 patent, hinting at AI resolution upscaling to enhance Switch 1 games, adds serious weight to those rumors! Ready for some new game sounds? Check this out: https://soundbuttonspro.com/
