Nintendo confirms Nintendo Switch 2 won’t have system-wide achievements

Nintendo’s vice president of player and product experience, Bill Trinen, has confirmed to Polygon that the Nintendo Switch 2 will not have system-wide achievements. This follows the tradition of previous Nintendo consoles which have neglected to include achievement systems which both Xbox and PlayStation consoles have had for years. Mr. Trinen said to the publication that it will be up to game developers to implement them in their own way similar to the current Nintendo Switch system.

    1. It’s nice to see you’re to-do list get checked marked. Or looking at how far others have theirs. A simple achievement system would e been great, one like Sony’s would’ve been amazing. This platinums are actually nice to look at. The level is a joke now, but seeing 20/40/80 platinums on your profile feels great.

      1. You need this for replayability?! But it’s true that reading “finish chapter 9” as a achievment is something useful…

  1. So let’s see somebody create these achievements on their own website or social media. Then others can come in and see if they can meet the challenge.

  2. I get that this doesn’t matter to many people for some people such as myself it’s a real shame and it means I am very likely to stick with my Deck for third party games where possible. It’s just nice to be able to easily track your progress through all your games (all in one place and without having to open the game)

  3. It is a shame, it’s an added benefit which keeps a record of your achievements in a single place even if you lose your saves. Unsure why so many dislike, I think it’s mainly a case of not having and forcing yourself to be satisfied without

  4. Shame. Instead of trophies, Ninty could have made them be either Mario coins, LoZelda Rupees, or Mario Stars. Bronze, Silver, Gold, & Platinum Coins/Rupees/Stars. Also, to make them worth something more than just an achievement, the coin, star, or rupee could have acted as currency. Bronze=10 cents, Silver=25 cents, Gold=50 cents, & Platinum=1 dollar. People would eat them up.

They all don’t even have to be actual money. The platinum could still be a dollar (or more if they’re feeling generous or the price could be dependent on how hard or time consuming it is to achieve) while the other 3 would be for unlocking icons for their avatar or even themes and/or music for the Switch 2’s main menu.

So many ways to make the achievements worth something for even the people that think achievements are meaningless or a waste of time or whatever.
