GameCube controller for Nintendo Switch 2 seemingly won’t work outside of Classics

Nintendo has stated in fine print at the end of a video detailing the GameCube controller for the Nintendo Classics range on Switch 2 that the exemplary controller won’t work outside of the Nintendo Classics range. It should be noted that Nintendo said the same in a disclaimer about the current GameCube controller for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, so we won’t know for sure until the system launches. The GameCube Nintendo Classic launch games for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack users will be The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Soulcalibur 2 and F-Zero GX.

  1. Can’t wait to play fzero gx again, absolutely loved this game, I actually have a GameCube and gx buried in the loft somewhere, but this will save me having to dig it out

    1. I wish it had been remastered and given the good treatment like with Metroid Prime. I wish they had done it again with Wind Waker too, but I was really hoping for it for GX since nothing new was coming from F-Zero. I really love this game so much so I am at least happy others can try it out and realize the masterpiece that it is, but it is bittersweet to me.

  2. Standard disclaimer for all the retro controllers they’ve done so far, nothing new here. And those HAVE been compatible with other games.

Given the plethora of buttons it sounds like it will be compatible with most games though. The big issue is no “-” button or clickable buttons. Probably a big CYA so people don’t try to use this for their “main controller”

    1. Does it keep happening to you when you try to respond to someone? It’s been happening to me a bit lately too. Makes me sad whenever I write a well thought out comment only for it to be devoured by the void. Only happens to me when I reply to someone. Hopefully this reply goes through…

      1. It even happens when I post a regular comment, like in the Ubisoft article I said “Doug Bowser came from EA, just saying.” Never got posted.

      2. I have a habit of using ctrl+a, ctrl+c on most of my comments on t’internet in case they fail to post for whatever reason. That way I don’t have to try and remember what I wrote with my ADD brain 😂

    2. Your not the only one that happens to me. It happens to me more often when I tried to reply into someone else’s statement and my comments on this site was never shown when I tried to posted it. This really happens to me so on and so on countless times. First I thought it was my account and then later, I realized it was the WordPress site itself who keeps removing my comments for no good reason when I tried to post it.

  3. I’ve had it happen on numerous occasions, when my comment never shows up. I usually just wait awhile and try again or post on another topic, it’s been happening for some time but it’s not that often.

    1. I think it’s been happening for a year or so. It’s gotten to the point where I don’t even bother commenting half the time any longer.

  4. The Nintendo GameCube Controller Adapter is compatible in docked mode… so I could just keep on keeping on with my flock of GC Wavebird controllers. Sure, no chat/whatever extra buttons but for in person multiplayer games where analog triggers are useful… it would make use of what I already own.
