Nintendo has plenty of large franchises under its wings that could make the perfect animated movie fodder but Mr. Miyamoto has one thing on his mind and that’s the adorable Pikmin. Speaking in a recent interview, Mr. Miyamoto suggested that the series has untapped potential and that an animated Pikmin movie and show could make some big waves with the younger crowd and would also appeal to fun natured adults as well. The last mainline Pikmin game was Pikmin 4 which is available on the Nintendo Switch at retail and on the Nintendo eShop.
“I think Pikmin has a lot of potential to be used in many different occasions. When you’re looking at small kids, they have a certain appeal for things that are cute and when they grow older, maybe in their twenties, they start to lose appeal for that. But I think Pikmin has this unique ability to have appeal across a broad range in that it’s still appealing for both younger audiences and older audiences and in Japan. And so I’m hoping that we can expand that globally. So whether it’s some kind of a movie or show, things like that would be really fun”
In my opinion Star Fox would make a good movie. Space battle movies tend to be good.

Those Pikmin Shorts are AMAZING, Pikmin is by far one of the most artistically and aesthetically pleasing franchise made by Nintendo, I think they’ve already achieved perfection with those shorts they just need to make them more :D
Pikmin Short Movies were PERFECT. And honestly the lore implications for the series are deep(/dark) enough to warrant a relatively light-hearted film in all honesty. They even have it established that essentially all protagonists can talk, so it’d be more of a question on how to write the moment-to-moment than if you could even write dialogue (think Link w/ TLOZ)

I couldn’t agree more! If they make a series/movie again, I hope shigeru is in charge, he made the series and he knows how to perfectly capture the aesthetic. Fingers crossed.

Just make anime 2D anime. Mario, Zelda for sure, Fire Emblem, Golden Sun, Mario Power Tour Tennis, F-Zero, more Kirby Right Back At Ya!, Pokémon Origins series anime finally, Astral Chain, Kid Icarus, and many others
The ten year gap between games would suggest otherwise…
