Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida and creative director Kazutoyo Maehiro has seemingly hinted that they are trying to get Final Fantasy XVI up and running on the Nintendo Switch 2. At a recent event talking about the game’s arrival on Xbox Series X|S, Yoshida apparently said that there’s “just Nintendo’s left” when talking about platforms that the mainline Final Fantasy game is currently available on with Maehiro saying he “will do his best.” The action RPG has some intense graphical sequences namely with the Eikons, so it will be interesting to see if they can achieve this without too many compromises.

I don’t think the switch 2 will handle it because I tried it on steamdeck. This isn’t about switch 2 vs steamdeck this about high demanding games run steamdeck or switch 2. Ff16 is very demanding when it comes to it because I played it on PC.
Most? FF7 Remake was a successful release. Rebirth might have sold less copies but overall it was positively received by everyone who actually played it. FF16 is a great game but it definitely alienated a big chunk of the fanbase by removing most of the actual RPG mechanics.

I really loved this game a lot. Great story, amazing combat and boss battles, but pretty jank pacing. If they do port it I hope it would sell well, but I’m sure everyone who wanted to play it already did elsewhere.
I already got the PS5 Collector’s Edition but I wouldn’t mind a Switch 2 Port to play on the go. I just want more Final Fantasy games on Nintendo hardware just like the old days.

Third party games aren’t doing well on Switch 2 this won’t either. The pony army is going full crazy to defend this and more so defend Sony this and Rebirth were both flops deal with it! When Part 3 flops too don’t be mad. Switch 2 won’t save Square Enix or Capcom. Nintendo games are what drives their sales and exclusives whether they be a partnership of some kind or exclusive because. It seems like rumors of Kingdom Hearts being poorly mismanaged by them are true and rumors Disney also may have caused some trouble as well as rumors of Dragon Quest 12 being in a rough place too because hey seem to not want to reveal them? Final Fantasy 9 remake maybe they finally reveal that this year but that won’t save them either. FGC is already gassing Street Fighter 6 sales on Switch 2 when Tokon flops on PC and PS5 maybe the cope heads get a wake up call
Thank you but no thank you, let them keep this crap honestly… As my husband would say, it’s a very beautiful movie, an average game, and a very bad final fantasy… and if you remove the Final fantasy references, this game could have been a devil may cry or even a male bayonetta! Not to mention that it is very poorly optimized on the PS5…

The team really must have loved the ideas over at Tales Arisen, but, it’s better than that game. Be it story, mechanics, builds and definitely lore, FF16 is actually much stronger than many of the RPGs lauded simply bc they fit a death of demographic’s, time constraints and amoral screen guilt.
Frankly, mature Final Fantasy’s are gems, and we need more of them. Type 0 is the best in class format, many whine, that all the games should be but shouldn’t.
How the “woke” and anti-awakening crowd can both disparage against a FF with t/a, goes to show that, that conversation is just two sides of the same echo, opposite ends of the hallway.
But it’s more than censoring art or uncensored expression. It’s the lack of perception of what is art, what is a game, and what is a good fantasy.
FF16 nails all three, and bc it bakes a pie, made some ice cream, and then served it all on a platter, some desire to criticize the pie for its alamod.
Or blame the ice cream for having, pie on it.
A specific, popular chef was even hand picked by fandom. To deliver, an adult, story driven, game of thrones meets whatever else millennials hyped gen Z into asking for, then got old and then the echo gen z hears and repeats, got garbled.
Every generation gap ever, explained, except the internet gives this tide on beach effect. Old heads and new heads, opinions washing back and forth until a scummy foam is left behind on the sand. That’s the only evidence of a tide at all.
The game simplified it’s build mechanics too much. And it simplified action control scheme too much. It then relied too much on showing players where to go, in a world of giant corridors. It slapped giant HUD and mini-map on environments, as to say we know our fans aren’t actually here for artistic expressions. But these are all reflections of fan wants and what fans have become, whether they can describe their aging or not.
It terms of being what was demanded, it is spot on.
It’s a beautiful story, that is afraid to dig deeper, bc of the maturity level of it’s fans.
Mechanically, it is one of the best if not best, DMC’s of all time.
But this game and it’s problems have nothing to do, with its wishy-washy fanbase.
FF7 Rebirth wasn’t a flop, it just underperformed Enix’s always undermining “goals.” Then supposed fans took that narrative and molded it into a lifestyle to project and Square Enix.
It’s the same propaganda campaigning that saw CD and Tomb Raider sold, to less than ideal stewards. Games that are stellar, and top of their class, entire franchises, undermined for a close minded crowd, that wants to seem like they’re open minded too. But they don’t have a clue, what they want.
Give me a HD small build of FF7, and I’d still want a full fledged reimagining. Give me a traditional turn based FF16, and I STILL WANT A STORY DRIVEN ACTIONER WITH sex, nudity, blood, and drama. What about me?
Personally, I just need the HUD removed from FF16, and I would have been completely served my deserts, all the platter, assorted beautifully, all in one dish.
Both Rebirth and FF16, have their flaws as well as design decisions which weren’t bespoke, and jarring to play when contrasted with the experience tauted.
SE hedged some bets on some big dollar investments and both games should be truly open world. This would have elevated alot of consternation for both games and the worlds their directors had been chanting to the masses to expect.
These are all marketing failures. But reality, digital reality, and actually, have all been conflated into, digital delusions.
