A number of retailers have started taking pre-orders for the newly announced WWE 2K25 for the Nintendo Switch 2 and despite the blurb on the trailer mentioning a Game-Key Card, the physical box-art states that it is just a redeemable download code for the Nintendo eShop, which is worse than a standard Game-Key Card. Let’s hope publisher 2K Games changes its mind and at least makes WWE 2K25 a Game-Key Card.
WWE 2K25 for Nintendo Switch 2 retail box-art states code in a box

Trust Nintendo to pull a Nintendo.
What does Nintendo have to do with it? It’s 2K.
inb4 “hurr Switch 1 didn’t have that”:
-Spyro only had the first game in cart.
-Wolfenstein: Youngblood.
Try harder with the trolling.
SigmaZX, let’s be crystal clear. Nintendo absolutely does have control – they own the console, the eShop, and every single cartridge that gets pressed.
Game-Key Cards are already an atrocious farce, turning physical into a glorified download key. But now, you’re defending a “code in a box”, which is literally just an empty case for a full digital download.
Stop defending 2K’s awful decisions you pathetic shill. I can’t stand braindead hypocrits like yourself.
You want Nintendo telling publishers what to do? Are they gonna subsidize the $16 for the cart too?
Last time I checked, Nintendo didn’t pull a gun out and forced each and every publisher to adopt Game-Key Cards. In fact, Nintendo decided to implement them after consulting with publishers themselves.
Nintendo isn’t using it. CDP didn’t use it to Cyberpunk 2077. They literally have the option to not use it. If they want to use it, it’s on them. It’s like condemning someone just for giving the option, which is dumb as all hell.
Plus go back and reread my post and quote the exact part where I was defending it. I’ll wait.
P.S.: Also sorry to burst your bubble but physical games are a dying market.
Not even the first game. Spyro only had the first WORLD of the first game.
Meanwhile fucking Hogwarts Legacy was completely on-cart and it’s still considered one of the best Switch ports.
In a nutshell: it’s a publisher thing. Notice that every single one who used the “redeem code” format is a Western developer which is either facing problems or was going through a change. Spyro? Activision would be bought by Microsoft. Youngblood? Bethesda being bought as well. 2K? Do I need to elaborate?
The dreaded code in a box…I expect the same for NBA 2K26
I’m just happy that WWE2k25 is coming to the Switch 2, played it on PS5 and loved the gameplay.
This wouldn’t be and shouldn’t be news, but the Fungus wants people to get angry. He feeds on your emotions. Remember that.
That’s even worse than the game key card, at least with the key card you can download onto another system. Also, that’s a waste of plastic and paper.
Yeah. This is the last console that will read physical media…
WWE 2k servers shutdown for the current game a year after it releases once the new WWE 2k game releases, with a code in a box you can’t trade the game in once the servers shutdown. I’ve been playing WWE games sence Smackdown vs Raw 2010 and never heard of this “code in a box” crap until 2k started releasing WWE games. Does anyone here even play WWE games or just mad at the thought of having a voucher code.
This never happened when Thq published WWE games, but now WWE has a contract with Take-Two Interactive 2k sence 2013.
