Rumour: Nintendo Switch Online may soon be adding Super Smash Bros and Donkey Kong 64

official artwork for Super Smash Bros on N64

A number of social media fans have been going over a Nintendo Switch Online-themed video from Nintendo which was uploaded over a month ago. The video includes a segment showing the new Nintendo Switch Online setting toggle overlaid on a very blurred background which displays different box arts from the Nintendo 64 library of games. One of the blurred games is thought to be Super Smash Bros featuring the game’s logo and a big yellow shape in the exact spot where the mighty Pikachu is located on Super Smash Bros box-art. Other box-arts supposedly spotted blurred out are Donkey Kong 64, Forsaken 64, and Glover.

  1. Ironic I was talking about SSB64 vs Donkey Kong and now there is a possibility lol. Nintendo being slick hiding cover arts behind an obscure segment.

  2. Pretty overdue considering it’s been 3 years. Nintendo is honestly starting to spread themselves too thin when it comes to these collections, and they gotta increase their output. GB and GBA have had hardly any updates, and it’s going to take a long time for the GameCube collection to be decent if they are going at the pace they are going.

      1. I’d say it’s a pretty good collection, but there’s still pretty good titles missing. Diddy Kong Racing, Tetrisphere, Lego Racers, Cruis’n USA, Silicon Valley, Bomber Man 64, maybe Hey You Pikachu if they can find a way to use the microphone with it. Stadium 1 and 2 still pretty much need the GameBoy games to get the intended experience, but at this point I don’t think it’s coming.

          1. Yeah, Rare carried Nintendo during the N64 era. Ironic that Nintendo was quick to let them go because their output for the GameCube at the time was low.

                1. supposedly rare games werent doing so hot sales wise in the final years and nintendo didnt wanna bid against microsoft so nintendo declined.
idk if true, never cared to look but people were blaming dk64, tooie, and conker …but those are just users online so probably means nothin

                  1. After the N64, that team never really recovered. The guys that left RARE ended up at Free Radical (and I loved their games, especially the Time splitter series) but that team went south, they then ended up bought up by Crytek UK, and again, went south. And then lastly got bought by deep silver which then got shut down. Most of them are at Playtonic, but that team isn’t doing so well.

Maybe Nintendo saw something we all don’t, but yeah, they passed on first dibs.

  3. YEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHH.
Never understood why smash 64 was still not in the online.
Either they didn’t want to damage smash ultimate sales (very stupid I know but you can expect Nintendo to do this type of thing)
Or they had problems with the emulation, cause smash 64 is a real pain to emulate
