Square Enix confirms there’s no Switch 2 upgrade path for Octopath Traveler 0

Square Enix has bad news for those of you planning to buy the original Nintendo Switch version of the newly announced Octopath Traveler 0 as there will be no upgrade path to the Nintendo Switch 2 version if you decided to upgrade to the newer console at a later date. Square Enix didn’t give a reason why there won’t be an upgrade path for those going from the original Nintendo Switch to Nintendo Switch 2. The company is doing the same thing with the upcoming Dragon Quest 1-2 HD Remake.

  1. It’ll have to be the Switch 1 version for me. I’d rather actually own my game than have a marginally better version that can be turned into a worthless paperweight at any time. Game Key Cards are the worst.

  2. Im getting this but on my Switch 1 physical copy. I dont even have a Switch 2 yet. After seeing that direct, im questioning if i even need a Switch 2. I.like the Octopath and Bravely Default series and physical copies. What if Ubisoft were to make a Mario Rabbids 3 will it be a Key Card? What if Shin Megami Tensi VI is only Game Key Card?

Cant they make it where I can download games to a cartridge instead of on my system?

  3. Switch 1 copy it is, then.
Maybe if Nintendo didn’t have such stupid restrictions on what size cards developers could use – but I bet this is a sneaky way to try to force consumers to get more used to digital only versions of Nintendo games. Really sad to see Nintendo apparently abandoning supporting physical copies and not realizing why it’s important.
