Sonic Team head explains why DLC characters aren’t voiced in Sonic Racing CrossWorlds

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds is shaping up to be an excellent racing title, but one thing that is a little jarring is that the DLC characters like Joker etc won’t be voiced. The game has numerous interactions between its cast of characters like Sonic and Tails. Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka says that the reason the additional characters aren’t voiced is mainly to easily facilitate the approval process for said DLC characters.

There has been some talk regarding certain DLC characters not having voices in-game currently. Even just playing on the demo, there was an instance of them not having a voice. Is there any reason behind this? And also, will you potentially add updates in the future to add voices if there’s enough fan outcry for it?

Iizuka: In this game, there’s a lot of interactions between characters, so if we include voices for the guest characters, that will mean a lot of interaction between them and Sega characters. The scope of the review that we’ll have to ask the external companies will become very large. We didn’t want to make it difficult for the external company. So that’s, I guess, the reason why we decided not to be.

Well…as far I noticed, the only character that have voice lines beyond the base roster is Hatsune Miku, but the majority of what she say during race is “onomatopoeia” pronounced and Iku yo (here I go)

  1. Because they have no money left and are too lazy.

This is the same game where unused DLC slots are in the open, because the dev team didn’t want to update the roster each time a DLC character is added to it.

Sonic is truly dead to me, and Crooked Teeth here is a reason why.

let me guess are you that sonic fan who also hate him for whatever reason aren’t you?

      1. He not real sonic fan. He just SEGA and sonic hater tbh, just some nintendo fanboy who like Trashing stuff for no reason

  2. I get that to some degree, but not having even a grunt whilst doing tricks kinda sucks. Games like Mortal Kombat 1 have features like this with DLC voices planned for, so it’s not impossible, maybe just a financial concern?

  3. Shit excuse. What does he even mean by “the scope of the review”? It’s not like the characters will make “your mom” jokes or threaten to kill each other in a racing game.

Also Joker is a Sega character (inb4 “Atlus”, Atlus is owned by Sega). What’s there to even review?

Besides, things get strange when Werehog (a Sonic character) and, according to leaks, Tangle and Whisper (Sonic characters) will also be mute. That just sounds like laziness from Sega’s part. It gets harder to be hyped by a character that we know it’ll be a complete mime.
