Movie leaker DanielRPK is back and says that SEGA is currently working on an animated Sonic series. DanielRPK information can be hit or miss and SEGA has not announced a new Sonic animation series, though it’s highly likely that a new one is in the works. The last Sonic animated series was Sonic Prime which made its debut on Netflix in 2022.
Thanks to SonicGalaxy27 for sending in the news tip!

hope is a anime or something
It might not be a Sonic anime because we haven’t gotten another Sonic anime since Sonic X. I’m really hoping and praying that Team Chaotix, Silver, E-123 Omega and Blaze be in the next animated series. That’s the only thing I’m hoping for. Nothing else. Just them only. They need to be featured and acknowledge for once.
Prime was trash so was boom. Also this guy is often wrong Daniel. I’d prefer anime too there is nostalgia for Sonic X and anime is more popular than a western cartoon after Prime failed to do what they wanted anime would be the better route. Problem is the current leadership for Sonic do not want that.
After Sonic Prime flopped and Racing they need to restructure if Sonic 4 flops too I think they really get concerned at Sega and Frontiers 2 would be the domino that causes change if it flops. Current leadership need to go Iizuka holds back Sonic Adventure remakes from happening and the other people just want weird bad bland writing pretending its deep the bad comics or Frontiers.
If Sonic 4 flops and Paramount buys WBD they end the movies. I mean I think it will people are tired of it and rumor is 4 will be expensive packed with Shadow and the Sonic CD story also Amy is not a seller like Shadow.
Amy is a turn off influencer shills running defense for it now everyone calling out they should have used Silver instead. Sonic 4 will flop Zelda movie will destroy it at the box office add on the dislike for Amy and kids getting older not getting the character they wanted they will just pass on the film add on others who don’t like Amy and 3 was a mess.
Anime has larger appeal also making western cartoons the way they do is just weird they tone it down so much then the fandom defends it as for kids and then especially kids have no interest in it. Anime has more appeal older audience and kids would watch it they don’t want to be talked down to when I was a kid neither did I. Shenmue anime was great that should be brought back and Yakuza needs one too with Nagoshi supervising, Sega needs to do that over more Sonic Prime and Boom’s. No faux anime either like Yasuke or Castlevania which are either western creatives and Japanese animation in the case of Yasuke or Japanese IP and Texas animation studio with western creatives in the case of Castlevania also kind of Devil May Cry on Netflix western staff and Korean studio outsourced for animation just like Avatar.
Anime would make sense after 2 failed series with Boom and Prime being western and Sonic X is still popular streaming everywhere also Gen Z nostalgia. Always wanted those characters in Sonic X Silver and Blaze also Omega, Mephiles, Babylon Rogues, and Black Doom. It would be nostalgic Netflix has 2021 Shaman King, Kinnikuman, and then Sonic X.
It would not make sense after 2 failed western animated series with boom and prime. They would also need funding boom was handled by French companies like OuiDo and prime with a Canadian company WildBrain and an American company netflix who bankrolled it. Theres not a lot of options anime would be the only option that way Netflix would fund it given success they have had with anime otherwise they’d pass on it and WildBrain is restructuring possibly looking to sell so that’s a no from them the only Canadian company that would back this given Nelvana is done and Canada has other problems like relying on foreign money to hold up their entertainment industry and prime failed. Netflix and Sega have had good business with anime through Sega’s studio TMS who makes Baki for them and agreements for Four Knights Of The Apocalypse and Sakamoto Days to stream there. Another French company who could handle Sonic is ZAG but they need funding right now they get it from Brazil so really scrapping the bottom of the barrel for funding. Anime would be a higher upside and now it just sounds easier.
Daniel is always wrong. I agree I would prefer anime but current leadership does not want that they want weird western slop mixed with Ian Flynn’s weird ideas. I am confused as to who could make a new Sonic cartoon? WildBrain after Prime I do not think is interested and neither is Netflix for funding it not a lot of options here. I guess Paramount if it ever happens?
Paramount is busy trying to buy WBD and they have their own IP and divisions they look to revamp so Sonic is not owned by them just movie universe. I do not think they will make a Sonic cartoon. It’s just not a good idea Boom was made by the French, Prime by Netflix and Canada, there’s really no other options. Anime or bust for Sonic series.
China and Korea are options but at that point you’re basically crossing into anime territory
Saudi’s, China, or Korea. Saudi’s would want anime, China in China would produce something amazing could be like To Be Hero X would prefer 2D fully but writing would be crazy and animation. Korea not as much but it’s a possibility can’t think of Korean animated stuff.
No kidding because they want to keep buying out other companies and studios just to develop independent films and animated series.
Who? Paramount? Honestly it’s because linear entertainment consumption is down and less interest in new product these companies have to merge to survive the vinyl record business is an example there is like only 1 manufacturer because how niche it became. These companies are desperate to survive now especially Hollyweird. Independent film? Anyone can make something especially now they don’t need a big company outside backing. The Disney Fox acquisition also helped trigger this and transition to streaming over cable and theaters times have changed even the kinds of entertainment consumed it’s anime and even gaming it’s not these console releases it online stuff. This was always going to come it happened in the music industry where it’s 3 major companies. Animated series not really successful unless it’s anime or preschool last big hit I can think of was Solar Opposites and I don’t think anyone in Hollywood wants to do animation now it really doesn’t sell why a bunch are getting cancelled and scrapped mostly intended for kids to sell merch and they have no interest. Hurting to companies a lot which is why many assumed Hasbro and Mattel will merge in order to survive combine IP and hope to transition to licensing out and gaming.
I agree but I think contracts ruin the chance of a anime. Sonic has toy licenses locked at Jakks Pacific for years to come and they probably do not want anime made. Sega is not terminating the contract neither are they. Only hope for an anime is people who handled the contract at Sega for Jakks like Aaron Webber are fired then wait it out move the toy license over to Bandai Namco then a new Sonic anime could happen them or someone who would want to merchandise for anime.
Yeah IDW too I am shocked they can afford the Sonic license still that and TMNT. Sonic should be at Udon NO Ian Flynn or his team all new people.
IDW needs to be under investigation no way that company is still around no one buys their comics where it’s profitable. Udon I do wish got Sonic they have Mega Man now. Udon would get Sonic unlike IDW I blame Aaron Webber for that he and his buddy Ian Flynn sooner they are gone the better.
Saw a leak seems like it’s not “anime” it’s faux anime Powerhouse will make it and it’s not a animated series I assume it will be animated stuff on YouTube to promote the upcoming game supposedly called Eclipse and will consist of 15 episodes. Doesn’t sound great to me if true.
This sounds awesome
Daniel is always wrong!
They always bait me when they do this and then it turns out its him. He was wrong about Kingdom Hearts 4 being revealed in 2024, he was wrong about a Netherrealm Marvel game then claimed it was Injustice 3, he is always wrong. I think he said Silver would be in Sonic 3 too.
Correction Daniel is always wrong his scoops are always wrong only time he is right is when restating what another person said
Setting aside whether or not this rumor is true, I would love a sonic series animated by studio trigger🤩
No keep them away they are garbage. Also Sega owns TMS so TMS is most likely if they go anime
I agree everything Trigger makes even pre Trigger is awful! The writing is bad animation is ok they do blow budgets. Kill La Kill, Gurren Lagaan, SSSS Gridman, Edegrunners, all awful! Edgerunners is like normie anime. When it came to animation always put Sunrise in that top spot personally back in the day, Madhouse and Bones were up there too Toei as well more so because of IPs was 1 too, few other good ones too TMS for sure, BeeTrain, Xebec, White Fox, A1 Pictures, Deen to an extent, Gainax had 2 big series for me FLCL and Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Sonic is cool.
No not with current brand management and weird fandoms. Its uncool the brand needs to get back to what it was to be in a better place anime style and 2000’s Sonic tone.
No, Sonic is cool. Always has been, always will be.
No sorry no. I do not know what kind of cope that is. As someone who likes Sonic I can tell you know and sadly the fanbase has been looked down on for a long time doesn’t help when they get weird
I said Sonic is cool, not the fanbase. Sonic has been cool since the 90s, and he will always exist as cool no matter what you think. I don’t care in the slightest what the fanbase does because I don’t interact with it. All fanbases have the tendency to devolve into filth, which is precisely why you and I both know better than to lump the Sonic franchise in with how the fanbase behaves.
Sonic as a character is cool. Simple as that. He’s been way past cool since the 90s, and that fact will never change. Fanbase be damned.
No most Sonic fans are looked at as autistic or furries that is not cool that’s who people assume the franchise is for. Sega’s brand management has not helped that either.
Exactly being a nostalgic shonen anime is better than being weird millennial furry meta crap. The current Sonic is just looked at as weird the stigma has not changed. Anime has a wider appeal than whatever the brand is now.
Did you not play Shadow Generations? That entire game is nostalgic shonen anime. Either you didn’t play it and don’t know what you’re talking about, or you’re baiting, and this bait stinks.
