Nintendo launches new website to check Switch backwards compatibility

Nintendo has rather handily launched a new website which allows users to check whether Nintendo Switch games are working fine without any issues on Nintendo Switch 2. The majority of big titles are working fine when running on the newer hardware, but there are a few standouts such as the excellent NieR:Automata The End of YoRHa Edition which doesn’t function properly on the Nintendo Switch 2.

  1. It would be nice if they also made a note when an update had been made to the game to specifically enhance it for Switch 2 (I don’t mean Switch 2 Editions but games like Pokémon Scarlet or Super Mario Odyssey that have improved visuals and/or framerates on Switch 2). This information is actually quite irksome to find and I do think right now these updates are one of the cooler things about Switch 2, while its own software library is still a little small.

  2. I agree Damon. We really need an official source to keep track of which games have some sort of enhancement. My guess is they are a little ashamed of how paltry the offering is right now, and a lot of titles simply look better on the original Switch because of the resolution disparity.

  3. I call BS on this. I’m replaying Xenoblade 3 right now and it’s got some annoying audio issues that I’m certain weren’t present on the original Switch (or if they were, they were significantly less frequent). It also seems to have a choppier framerate in some of the cutscenes so far (almost through chapter 2).

“Supported – Game behavior is consistent with Nintendo Switch” my foot.

  4. Great move by Nintendo, this new site makes it super easy to check Switch game compatibility with Switch 2. Super handy for anyone planning their upgrade.
