It has been revealed that the Japanese version of the recently announced Tales Of Berseria Remastered will contain the censorship element that was featured in the western edition of the game. A case in point is a character death scene which shows a character being impaled on a sword. This scene has now been replaced worldwide with a large X with a floating body instead of the image which you can see below. Tales Of Berseria Remastered launches worldwide on 27th February.

Wait. This game is censored? Even on PS4? Well fuck. Wish I knew this before I bought it years back. I guess I’m gonna have to make more of an effort to research games before I buy them to make sure they aren’t censored. Already not buying Tales Through Daybreak because of this bullshit. It may be time to put Bandai Namco games that aren’t Dragon Ball on a no-buy list if they’re gonna start censoring everything. This is the third remaster with censorship bullshit from them. The first two were the Baten Kaitos remasters (no English dub was already bad enough) which now got me hoping the originals come to the GameCube Nintendo Classics app at some point. Probably won’t, though, because they’ll want to shove the “remasters” down our throats. Which is fine because I can just get them on the Dolphin emulator instead if it comes to that. Don’t fuck with my favorite GCN games like this.
Do you recommend those games highly? The Baiten Kaitos, that is. I’m rebuilding my GameCube collection and those are on my radar. I didn’t buy the remasters because of no English dub also, but I never talked the originals.
It’s because of them that I used the names of Kalas & Sagi (the MCs of “Eternal Wings” & “Origins”, respectively) for two of my main role play characters in my favorite role play on Gaia back in the late 2000s, so I love them regardless of how much others felt the voice acting sucked or whatever. I love the voice acting. To Western sensibilities, it does go over the top, but I’d argue they’re just matching what Japanese voice acting does on the regular. So I personally recommend them.

Honestly didn’t mind this censorship much when I played the original a few years back. The scene still felt pretty brutal and tense. The VA’ing went pretty hard.
