Japan: Console market grew by 138.8% in 2025 thanks to Nintendo Switch 2

Nintendo has been dominating Japan for quite some time now and news has emerged that the Kyoto-based company inevitably helped the grow the Japanese console game market in 2025 by 138.8%. The console market was worth 418.13 billion yen in 2025. However, it should be noted that revenue from digital sales, DLC etc was not accounted for, so the actual market size is likely larger. Automaton reports that Japanese hardware sales were up 149.3% year-on-year, while physical software sales grew by 121.0% compared to 2024.

  1. But I thought the video game market was failing, according to the dumb ass video game media, just because Sony and Microsoft suck, and have no GOOD quality games. Just as history has always proven it’s Nintendo that always saves the video game market, and they never get the credit they deserve.

    1. Uh, PS5 sales in Japan over 5 years are very low compared to the PS4 or the Switch… The Switch 2 will easily surpass it.
