Nintendo says it informs third parties when content doesn’t match guidelines

Nintendo has told IGN that it informs third party developers when their content doesn’t match the Kyoto-based company’s guidelines. However, it says Nintendo does not implement the changes, that’s up to the developer. The statement comes as a response to the recently released Dispatch video game which has been censored when played on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Here’s what they said:

“Nintendo requires all games on its platforms to receive ratings from independent organizations and to meet our established content and platform guidelines,” a Nintendo spokesperson told IGN.

“While we inform partners when their titles don’t meet our guidelines, Nintendo does not make changes to partner content. We also do not discuss specific content or the criteria used in making these determinations.”

  1. That’s a nothingburger of statement. How about Nintendo gives us an eshop tool that let’s us filter out games with specific words. If I could not see any games that have the word “hentai” in it, my eshop experience would be so much better.

    1. What do you mean? Nintendo is flat out saying this wasn’t their doing. What happened was this: Dispatch essentially was going to get an AO rating in Japan (or Z as it is called by CERO), which neither Nintendo or Sony allow to be on their platforms. Instead of creating two versions, one for Japan and one for the rest of the world, AdHoc just changed the game globally on the Switch.

Now, in Japan, Dispatch DOES have a separate version on PlayStation, but it took longer to release (likely because they had to comply with CERO). Instead of doing the same thing for the Switch, AdHoc just took the lazy route didn’t bother making a separate version of Dispatch for Japan.

  2. Nintendo forced Dispatch to sensor it’s Game, it’s Creation, it’s Art. This is not right or fair. Nintendo is truly being like a dictatorship, again.

      1. Says the person who makes sure to comment on every single comment on this site from anybody who dares speak against their favorite anti consumer company. They are forcing censorship on none Nintendo titles. We have age ratings for a reason, game consoles and computers have parental controls for a reason. Anybody that pays attention here knows not to even take SigmaZX’s comments seriously because they defend Nintendo no matter what they do.

  3. I won’t stop others from buying this game. I just don’t want it myself because the censorship is a middle finger to me. I’ll never buy a game from adhoc.
