Nintendo has seen success in the movie making business partnering with Illumination to create The Super Mario Bros. Movie and the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Retro Studios insider KiwiTalkz has backed the rumours that Nintendo is preparing to unleash an animated Donkey Kong Movie. KiwiTalkz also mentioned that he doesn’t believe that Retro Studios are currently involved with the next 2D Donkey Kong Country game, though he does seem to imply that something is currently in the pipeline.

Don’t like Diddy or Dixie Redesigns, they are bad. Donkey Kong is alright.

Donkey Kong is truly the one Nintendo franchise I have never managed to care about… That didn’t change for Bananza, and won’t for this alleged movie. I don’t like apes, monkeys, or Seth Rogen enough to sit down for them for 90 minutes. Even the most egregious girlbosses are more palatable than the latter figure’s shtick.
Princess peach ruined the mario movie for me though, and judging by the previews she’s going to be the worst part of the galaxy movie too.
I don’t see where KiwiTalkz suggested that a new 2D Donkey Kong Country games was currently in development? Beyond that if there is one he doesn’t think Retro studios will develop it. All I see is the main host, Kong Kompendium, speculating that Nintendo will release one right after the movie in October-November 2028.
