SEGA has said that despite strong reviews for its latest batch of video games this hasn’t translated to much better sales. The Japanese company says that it needs to nail its marketing and advertising to capitalise on the review scores and previews. The company went on to say that it feels its “lagging” in initiatives such as digital sales and data-driven marketing, which is something a company such as Capcom thrives on.
“While the development costs per title for our mainstay titles are lower compared to so-called AAA titles in the industry, we recognise that our strength lies in the relatively high acclaim we receive for quality.”
On the other hand, we also recognise that such high evaluations have yet to translate into a further increase in unit sales.
“While continuing to hone our development capabilities—the source of our strength—we believe there is still significant room for improvement and earnings upside in our ‘power to sell,’ namely our marketing and sales mechanisms. As explained earlier, we are currently undergoing reforms in this area to realize a scale-up in sales.”

Sagan needs to bring back pans or dragon goon saga with the RPG elements. They also need to bring back skies of Arcadia. They also need to bring back their shining force and many of their other RPG’s from the past and not only do great upgrades and additions to those they need to create sequels to those RPG’s have been pretty big lately and they’re missing them boat …. in my opinion the sonic franchise has its base but it’s never gonna be huge again because the last processing they used during the genesis era is really a moot point at this point and personally I don’t like just speeding through everything I would rather look around and investigate more sonic is way too fast to be able to enjoy that much of that !!
You don’t get to poison the well for ages and then get mega rewarded for a few good games.
Sega needs to be known for quality if they want everyone to put their games at the top of their lists.
How was it poisoned? The games of the past sold better than recent ones
That’s how it was poisoned; too many fans have been burned in the past. People seem to forget that characters like Sonic have never had a good game, even the original trilogy is a poorly designed mess of unplayability. Yes, let’s have the character run faster than the screen and the player can keep up with, then around every loop and jump introduce an immediate complete stop mechanic that not only halts all the action, but makes you lose all your rings/life on impact. It somewhat got better in the 3D games, but only because they put you on rails, completely wrenching control away from you for the sake of speed yet again. Yeah you can see the obstacles coming now, and have 1 of 3 rails to jump to to avoid it, but it’s still the lazy design of speed over everything else that kills it. Frontiers was their best attempt at making Sonic fun and playable, and it was still mediocre at best. Finally, the character has always had the same flaw, his speed, and in both the comics and movies every other character has to be able to go as fast as him otherwise there’s no plot, no danger, no threat, etc. It’s the same reason why characters like Superman or The Flash absolutely suck, you have to create weaknesses to overcompensate for their insane plot armor.
Obviously SEGA doesn’t just release Sonic games, but the other games they typically do release are all niche titles; great reviews aren’t going to draw in people who aren’t already fans, and again, a lot of fans got burned and no intelligent gamer trusts reviews from these websites anymore. Most of them aren’t even gamers themselves writing about how this game fails in every aspect but give it a 9.
I think they do a decent job advertising the games, the problem is that the brand has been tarnished to hell.
Their games go on sale for penny’s miliseconds after they launch. No wonder no one buys them at launch, but I could see sonic racing crossworlds probally selling better later as people buy it for a cheap quality party game.
I agree with them. So many awesome SEGA games come out but if it’s not a Sonic game nobody knows about it. They really need to shape up with their marketing. I’m a gamer and even though the new Shinobi game is amazing, there was no hype for it.
That’s what they get for censoring Persona 3 remake
Do you have this woke monster thing in your head 24/7 or can you actually have thought like a normal human being king
Where did super game go? All Sega does is put out statements about their dedication. Statements come and statements go, but I don’t see the difference
Sega became synonymous with failure. They let their fans down with the Saturn, Game Gear, and Dreamcast. They couldn’t even manage to focus on quality games. Their current existence is thanks to games like Persona, Total War, and Football Manager, and even those aren’t from their main development team.
Key Reasons Game-Key Cards Are Considered a Waste
No “Plug-and-Play”: Unlike traditional cartridges, you cannot immediately play the game upon inserting the card. A large download is always required.
Storage Hog: They still take up massive amounts of storage space on your console, just like a digital download.
Limited Preservation: Because they rely on server-based downloads, these games may become unplayable in the future if servers shut down.
Misleading Physical Product: Users are essentially paying full price for a plastic box and a digital license, rather than a completed physical game.
Inconvenience: You still have to carry around and swap physical cards, but you gain none of the “true” physical, data-on-cartridge benefits
Sonic Racing Crossworlds is on the cartridge, what on earth are you talking about?
Great games are not the ones selling the most anymore, why do you think the gaming landscape has been filled with repetitive and uninspired garbage for I’d say almost a decade now, either live service games or remakes of beloved franchises, and EVEN THEN the sales of games overall has been decreasing cause people are living in a failing economic state. I hope this doesn’t discourage sega from releasing actually polished games cause they were unironically KILLING IT these few years.
I’m not aware of any of their new games, so yeah their advertising stinks
Kinda funny that all news about Sega they are always playing the victim.
Old people pretend good reviews metacritic means high sales that is not true. Also Capcom had multiple flops Dead Rising remake, Exoprimal, Path Of The Goddess, Dragons Dogma 2, and apparently Monster Hunter Wilds which did not meet expectations and honestly it will get worse. Sega wasted money on slop and lost key people like Nagoshi. Yakuza I think sells well but that Sonic racing game was trash people just refuse to say it and were too busy trying to dunk on Mario Kart which succeeded. Metaphor not sure how that did? But losing Atlus staff hurts too, the creator is making a new game Vilion Code. These companies listened to out of touch boomers and wasted money now are struggling. I don’t think the next Sonic game helps.
Most companies pay for good reviews that doesn’t help at all whoever told them this should be fired my guess is Aaron Webber
Make games people want! Sonic Adventure remakes for example and Sonic Riders not expensive Sonic Racing with guest characters. Rovio did not help either massive waste of money. Shenmue remakes would be great too by RGG studio.
Fake it till you make it. Sega is doing this gaslighting to fool shareholders who are expecting returns all these companies are burning down thanks to not understanding the audience and overspending especially on loser influencers and expensive reveals. The millennial feedback groups and execs have also ruined things it’s super out of touch causing more damage it’s been the case for over a decade but now it’s showing.
Interesting point about strong reviews not always leading to higher sales. I’ve noticed the same thing with many video games lately, sometimes a great game gets praise but still struggles because marketing is weak. Players often discover new entertainment through other platforms instead. For example while discussing game releases with friends I ended up trying a casino platform called Megapari where the game selection and odds are clearly displayed. It shows how visibility and accessibility can really influence user interest.
Ignorance at its finest maybe make games for zoomers not boomers and you’ll do fine this is the issue all over the place in entertainment everything is geared for millennials not the younger crowd and has been for far too long. Reviews are not objective and can be faked also formed by small audience only representing them.
