The big news last night was that Nintendo has created a handheld boost mode on the Nintendo Switch 2 which means that original Nintendo Switch games perform as they would do docked, but in handheld mode. This helps improve the resolution and the framerate and is especially apparent in some older games which didn’t perform so well in handheld mode. GVG has uploaded a video showing a number of games examples such as the excellent Dragon Quest XI S running in boost mode and many others. You need to dive into Settings on your Nintendo Switch 2 and turn the toggle on under the System section and you are all set.
New video shows Switch games running on Nintendo Switch 2 with boost mode on

Im glad Witcher 3 was used. I bought the complete edition under 10 euro. It already ran well on handheld at least but now the changed made me nitpick it less.
Cant really tell a difference in Kingdom Come.
Fire Emblem Engage I think looks less jaggy? Not the franchise I play for the looking around bits.
Cant notice a difference in Mario Odyssey but I wanted to try since it’s not an official switch 2 title.
Pokémon Sword and Shield may be worth a look just cause those games always tend to chug on anything but a gameboy.
Other than that it’s hard to compare in memory i booted up bioshock infinite which I only bought in switch because I never played past the opening level elsewhere… and yeah no memory of if it looks right.
Generally the switch 2 already does wonder to old game loading times and frame rates.
Super Mario Odyssey already got a Switch 2 update so the resolution is already great in both docked and handheld. The game looks beatiful on Switch 2.
I love GVG, these comparison videos are great!!! I tried playing hollow knight on the switch 2 without the upgrade pack as a experiment with this boost mode, here were my results. The game originaly ran at 504p in handheld and 720p in tv mode on the original switch. So without the upgrade pack, the game will look much better at 720p then 504p when playing in handheld form. Of course the upgrade pack exists which boosts the resolution to 1080p in handheld form with 120 fps mode, but it was a really cool to see the difference. This boost mode reminds me how much fun it was to try out games on the switch 2 when it launched like brotato which ran so much better on the switch 2 then the original.
This is a game changer; it’s like every game got a free graphics update.
