Nintendo has confirmed to IGN that the cost of physical games won’t be increasing but digital versions will be slightly cheaper than physical. The news comes on the back of the announcement by Nintendo about the pricing of its first party Nintendo Switch 2 games. Here’s what a company spokesperson told IGN:
“The cost of physical games is not going up.
“This means that when Nintendo sells digital versions of Nintendo published games exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2 to consumers in the U.S., those prices will have an MSRP that is lower than their physical counterparts.
“Retail partners set their own prices for physical and digital games, and pricing for each title may vary.”
Thanks to Robin for sending in the news tip!

I would have assumed this is what they were always doing.

Yoshi’s pricing before the change seems to run counter to this. Kinda like charging $6 for sandwiches for a long period (regardless of whether the customer opts for a slice of cheese or not), announcing a new sandwich at $6, then revealing later that the new sandwich (and other new sandwiches) will be $7 with cheese, $6 without.
You didn’t really lower the price of the cheese-less sandwiches, you’re just changing customers extra for cheese slices now. Marketing can spin it how they like, but the reality is somewhat plain to see.
(suggestion: this Biblical verse: “Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.” – Ephesians 4:29, New Living Translation version)
At least someone knows how I feel. Tentri. Its the hacker who is doing this to you.
I was catfished by a guy from florida once so this all really resonates with me
I know digital games aren’t everyone’s thing, but I genuinely think they should be cheaper. It doesn’t make sense that physical copies or game cards often cost less than the digital versions. That gap feels even bigger when you compare Nintendo’s pricing to other digital platforms.
As I said in another post: it is the big retailers who set the prices for physical sales… based on the suggested price by Nintendo, but nothing forces them to follow this price; they can sell for less or more as long as it is not at a loss.
And I repeat myself: if digital had long been at the same prices, it is because these same distributors pressured for it to be the case since they raise prices for their margin! Otherwise, digital would always have been cheaper…
Nintendo isn’t making a single thing cheaper when the cost of shipping, materials and manufacturing are going up at the moment. They are losing money on Switches sold in Japan. They aren’t suddenly the only major company not desperate to raise revenues, let alone start giving $10 off every purchase in their eShop for the games that cost them money to put on it!
They’re just getting the us in line with UK and Europe. Digital prices for switch 2 games have been cheaper since launch
Common sense but the soylinnial tards already spinning narratives. Ignore Sony’s dynamic pricing or AI that plays your games.
I understand shipping costs and cartridge prices rise. I just don’t believe that we’re getting anything “discounted”. Not really Nintendo’s style these days to discount their goods.

So in other words, where we’re at now.
