Movie star Jack Black has revealed that Donal Glover campaigned to play the part of Yoshi in the Super Mario Galaxy Movie as it was something he really wanted to do. Jack Black says that Glover asked his agent to call the acclaimed animation studio Illumination as he desperately wanted to play Yoshi as he’s a big fan of the Mario universe.
“He told his agent, ‘Call [Illumination] and tell them I really want to be Yoshi’ … He loves it and he loves this universe”

Yoshi’s got this lovable character design, and it makes sense why an actor like Glover would want to voice such an iconic Nintendo character.
