Kit and Krysta: Nintendo does sit on games, though that not be the case with Switch 2 games

Former Nintendo employees Kit and Krysta have spoken about Nintendo sitting on some of its releases until the company believes the time is right to release them. We know from some ratings of Nintendo games in the past that the development seemingly wrapped up a year ago and that Nintendo decided to hold back the game’s release until now. While Kit and Krysta agree that it’s a thing that the Kyoto-based company does, they are not too sure if it’s still being done with Nintendo Switch 2 games, which have longer development times and have more costly development budgets.

“That totally happened though in the past where a lot of these things they just sock away in the Nintendo vault. Like a lot of these remakes, those ports, those are just like done real fast and they’ll just sock them away and then whenever there’s a gap in the calendar, they’ll just release one of those ports.

And that’s how they kept the Switch life cycle so long, is because they just didn’t really have any lulls because they were able to be so quick and kind of have a batch of stuff ready to go and they would just find the right time strategically to release it.”

“I don’t know how they’re doing these days. I feel like they themselves have had a bit of a shock when it comes to development on a Switch 2 and the time it’s taking… So now I do wonder, like they may have burned through everything they had in that vault at this point and now they’re probably as you know, not struggling, but as pressurized as like a PlayStation to get the next game out and make sure it’s developed at the scale that it needs to be for a Switch 2. I feel like they’re in a different kind of world now.”

“There’s a couple that are just always swirling as games that people have convinced themselves need to come out. But they may just be holding onto it still. They may be holding on to it.”

  1. So they are just sitting on Mother 3??? Damn you, Reggie!!

No, I but do wonder if WWHD is one of those games. Seems so strange it was never released on Switch.

    1. (suggestion: this Biblical verse: “Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.” – Ephesians 4:29, New Living Translation version)

  2. I thought everyone knew this, odyssey was one of the games I remember nintendo sitting on since its orginal reveal, and it came all the way out in October.

  3. Honestly, I could care less when each game is 60 to 90 bucks. Like that, I can only buy 2 or 3 games from Nintendo and that is it. I rather get some good games from Steam, which costs at best price 20 to 40 bucks. But hey, it is Nintendo’s show and the foul tomatoes are already flying.

      1. I agree with you, 100%. Unfortunately for some bizarre reason, Americans think “could care less” is the correct way to say the phrase, without thinking that it doesn’t make any sense. But then again, they also take a brand like LEGO and stupidly refer to the pieces as “legos”.

(suggestion #1: consider “could care less” a separate phrase (with its own logic) rather than a particular way of saying a certain other phrase)

          1. Most Americans can’t tell the difference between could and couldn’t. Their leaders love the uneducated remember.

        1. All Mario500 is doing is bringing peace into the conversation, it’s better not to be mean or use foul language as it makes us a better person.

  4. It’s better to sit on games than to milk them nonstop and remaster them every minute, looking at you Sony and the last of us and every PS4 remaster you can already play on ps5 if you got the PS4 original game

  5. Almost every Switch 2 first party game so far besides maybe Kirby, I feel and 100% guarantee were Switch 1 games originally and what is sad is Nintendo doesn’t even try to make the games be the best that they can be anymore, the latest Splatoon Raiders Trailer had some really ugly textures and graphics for a console that should be at least near PS4 levels, you can tell it was a Switch 1 game and they literally did the bare minimum to bring it to Switch 2. Looking at the pixelation and stuff in the new Yoshi game, I say that was a Switch 1 game originally as well. If Star Fox comes, well that’s been leaked and rumored for years so…. probably another Switch 1 original game in disguise
