The acclaimed team at ID Software were another team that was gutted by Microsoft in a series of changes to benefit the Xbox business going into the future. The team has now put out a statement announcing that while the studio was impacted by lay-offs they still “have the crew we need to build the games and tech we’re known for.” In the message they revealed that the team is now about the same size as the team that created the excellent Doom 2016. Thank you all for the support this week. While our studio was impacted, those changes were spread across teams. We still have the crew we need to build the games and tech we’re known for. The team today is about the same size we were when making DOOM (2016).
We have always had a flat studio where everyone is a maker, and we will remain true to that philosophy moving forward. We are focused on supporting each other and the team members impacted.
We’re going to keep building the great games and tech that have defined us for the past 35 years, and we’re looking forward to seeing you at QuakeCon this August.
If I’m id the first thing I’m doing is streamlining operations like cutting out development and focus of things like switch ports. Waste of time

Satia needs to go. Microsoft is a fucking mess. Xbox has been ruined. I’m glad to see them sell off some studios. But I don’t think they understand the greater implications to the gaming industry by Id software getting hit like this. What an absolute shame. Id software should be leading all development of fps games from Xbox. Halo, doom, wolfenstin, quake, ect should all be done with Id software taking on the engine work. They need to just get rid of all the management at Microsoft. They are just wondering in the dark right now.
Microsoft makes a billion dollars every second, they could easily pay everyone and not lay off everyone. I hope we get a new Microsoft CEO, it’s the only thing that can save this sinking ship.
