The fairly well-received Star Ocean: The Second Story R is now available on the Nintendo Switch 2 via the Nintendo eShop. That’s the good news, the bad news is that there’s no upgrade path and no save data transfer, which will come as a blow to some of you. Here’s what to expect from the Nintendo Switch 2 version.

Why do companies not offer and upgrade path? It’s so annoying! I am looking at you, square enix and sega.
I’m going to say it’s because it’s something they don’t ever discuss. Likely nobody internally is pushing for it to be discussed either. Set the price, and later the sale price as usual and that’s it. I think they’re extremely mechanical about it

No upgrade path again. Big surprise by Squeenix said no one. Squeenix has literally lost my business and not just on Switch 2 but PC as well. I’m sick of this absurd amount of anti-consumer practices coming from them.

Why can’t all publishers copy Bandai Namco’s release model at least? They’re releasing SW2 versions on GKC, but they also have Switch versions with full game physical and free SW2 upgrade. That’s way more consumer friendly.
Because that would require effort on their part. I’m not happy with game key cards but at least upgrade paths (free or otherwise) are available.
