Square Enix has held a PAX West panel called From Reunion to Resolve and revealed that their main ambition with the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy is to “expand FF7’s future” and “move beyond being a classic of the past and shape it into an IP with an ever-evolving future.” From the sounds of it the company hopes to capitalise on the success of the PlayStation original for a long time to come. We have had a number of spin-off games from VII and it sounds like more are likely to come.

If they put the amount of effort they spend milking FF7’s legacy into actually pushing foward the FF series as a whole SE wouldn’t be in the shit hole it’s currently in.
FF7 was never even that great in the first place, genuinely one of the most overrated games of all time. Not even in the top 5 FF games.

I love the Remake trilogy, but I think Square should let 7 rest after Revelation: I don’t think fans want to wait another decade for FF17

Final fantasy is pretty much a franchise of franchises. I honestly don’t know what they can do after the remakes are done. Maybe remaster that cerebus game no one played or something?
