Nintendo DS: Nintendo Comments On Poor GTA: Chinatown Wars Sales

grand_theft_auto1

Despite receiving rave reviews from a variety of  gaming publications Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars ultimately flopped at retail. Nintendo however have stepped forward to take a look at why this has been the case, acknowledging that large franchises on the Nintendo DS tend to sell well over an extended period of time, rather than just a short one month period.

Remember that many games for Nintendo DS have a non-traditional sales pattern. The trend is toward ‘evergreen’ games that sell well over an extended period of time instead of in a one-month spike. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for Nintendo DS is a good example. In its first month (November 2007), it sold only 36,000. To date, it has sold through nearly 500,000. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is a great game that has received tremendous reviews. We expect that with continued backing, it will follow the same long-tail/evergreen sales route that other top sellers have taken.

  1. the problem is history and hopefully both companies will learn a valubal lesson. Never dis future bussiness partners. For too long Rockstar has let rumors run that the had no plans to put content on Nintendo platforms because of a kid like presonna they had with gaming. Nintendo let it slip that they didn’t need games like GTA to survive. Fast forward to now and you get to companies; highly successful, and they are seemingly doing bussiness a strained communication point. GTA: CTW does not do as well as GTA: IV in first month sales because of company views and fans preseptions over facts. Let it be a lesson to both companies never to burn your bridges even if you don’t like ones bussiness model.

  2. I have this game for my DSI and I have to say its one of the best GTA I have played so Im pretty sure it going to sell
