Specifications for the Nintendo Switch 2 may have leaked due to some diligent individuals who have been tracking shipments happening between component suppliers, Nvidia and Nintendo. While we won’t know for certain if these specifications are included in the next generation system from Nintendo until the Kyoto-based company officially reveals it, but it’s certainly interesting and pitches the system as a slightly more powerful PlayStation 4 console. Here’s what has been discovered so far:
- 12 GB RAM (two 6 GB 7500 MT/s LPDDR5 modules)
- 256 GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage
- Seems like both the console will include a built-in microphone (and thus maybe controllers too?)
- RAM is specifically LPDDR5X.
Thanks to DAPower98 for sending in the news tip!

Uh, I want to say that these specifications do not indicate the power of the machine in any way, RAM has never been an indicator of power
N64 / GameCube were the best Nintendo consoles. CHANGE MY MIND.
don’t have to change your mind, the gamecube is not the best nintendo console, but the best console in general
No, it doesn’t, but it sure does make or break some games. The biggest discrepancy we saw with this was Skyrim on PS3/360, where the PS3 could barely run it. 12GB of RAM is pretty decent for a handheld though, it’s not the 16GB that the Steam deck has, but I also don’t think the Switch 2 is trying to complete with it.
This is assuming that this is true. We could be getting a switch with 10GB or even 8GB.
No, the ps3 had a more powerful RAM than that of the xbox360, its main problem was its programming difficulty due to the Cell processor. The amount of ram has little influence on performance, unlike the type : for example: 16 GB of DDR 2 RAM will always be less efficient than 4GB of DDR4… and LPDDRs are less efficient than DDRs or GDRRs
The Steam Deck has 2 times more RAM than the PS4 but is less powerful
The real question here is how much stronger is than a PS4? Will 3rd party developers be able to port higher end demanding games to the Switch 2?
Not once did I say that PS3 had weaker RAM, as a matter of fact, I never even mentioned power.
Yes the PS3 had XDR, which was better than your DDR3 on the 360, but that was nulled when Sony locked half of it to the OS, and only allowed 256mb for games. As for Skyrim, it was stated by Bethesda that the memory leaks were the caused of the lag. And it wasn’t only the PS3 that was affected, it was also the 360, it just wasnt so widespread because, again, the PS3 had less RAM to handle that memory leak. (The cell processor was a pain to developed for, but both the PS3 and 360 had issues running Skyrim)
And you could t be anymore wrong, LPDDR5 is MORE efficient than DDR5, in fact that’s it’s main purpose. It’s less powerful, but more efficient. And for the RAM on question LPDDR5X, that’s evenore efficient than regular LPDDR5, and stronger, better overall.
The Switch Next (Switch 2) won’t be running an x86-64 based operating system since it will apparently have an ARM based CPU. It wont need a bunch of RAM for that. If I’m not mistaken, the Steam Deck runs on SteamOS (Linux).
12GB is plenty for a hybrid console, especially if it is indeed LPDDR5X type RAM
Yeah some leakers got info from a supposed public Shipping Log and according to the processor name, ARM A78C, it will be using this “cut down” version of the Tegra Orin called, Tegra Drake (and will backport some of the RTX 40 series architecture (Ada) features into it (Ampere architecture)).
Which on speculation of the info, would put the system a lil above PS4 level on handheld and between a PS4 Pro and Series S when docked.
Of course take with a grain of salt.
LPDDR5X RAM is actually fairly new and apparently outperforms desktop DDR5 RAM modules and lower hz rates and has lower power consumption, also they’re not soldered to the board so they’re easily removable… I wonder if Nintendo is planning something like the N64 Pak that came with DK64? Just me theorizing.
But it is a Huge indicator of the types of games they plan on running. We saw it with the bump to 4gb to cope with larger worlds. It’s a good sign.
Ram has a lot to do with how well the games will run. Without plenty of ram the game will run like crap. Remind you the PS5 and Series X only have 16gb ram and the highest end tablets selling for over 1k all have only 12gb ram as well. For Nintendo do to have this will definitely mean they will be able to get anything thing to play in handheld at 1080 and 60fps let alone be able to do 4k in docked mode as well. I expect 4k all around docked and handheld.
Simply put they would only have 8gb ram if they were not going to have 4k period. Even the series x and PS4 can do 4k gaming and have only 8gb ram.
Ram and GPU do go hand in hand. If anything it would be a powerhouse gpu and lack of ram not crapload of ram and weak gpu. At that point the extra ram is worthless.
The term bottleneck exist for a reason, but most people seem to forget that.
12 GB is a good step up from the Switch 1’s 4 GB
3DS was one of the best consoles unlike the Wii I.
The 3DS wasn’t a console, neither is the Switch. They’re handhelds.
Well a Handheld is still a console by nature, and the Switch is a Hybrid, not just a regular Handheld or Home Console
And trolls say obinna was dumb.
If Nintendo won’t talk about the Switch U, the leakers sure will.
Wait. Do 6gb modules even exist?
Might cost as much as the ROG Ally z1 Extreme with those specs. $500 at the minimum. Highly doubt Nintendo will sell them for anywhere between $400-$450 but you never know.
Nah i DONT believe it, Nintendo never prices consoles this much
Japanese children are still the main demographic of Nintendo console so there’s no way they will target Handheld PC prices. My bet is at $400 tops.
