Switch accessories manufacturer seemingly posts details of Switch 2

Mobapad, which is a Nintendo Switch accessory manufacturer, has published details regarding the Switch 2 on their Bilibili page. While nothing should be taken as truth at present until it is officially unveiled by Nintendo, the accessory manufacturer says that the Nintendo Switch 2 features a 1080p screen with a dock capable of 4K output, new Joy-Con buttons, and is of course backwards compatible with Nintendo Switch games. Here’s the details via Reset Era member R:

1. The Bluetooth chip of Switch 2 still supports existing Joy-Con and Pro controllers, and still features HD vibration (ALPS dual-axis linear motor).
2. Switch 2 has backwards compatibility with Switch 1 cartridges, but Switch 2 cartridges will be different and won’t fit on a Switch 1.
3. The new joycons are larger and are magnetically attached to the console with an electromagnet. The SL and SR buttons are metallic now, and there’s a new button behind each joycon (location where the button is) and a new button below the home button on the right joycon (location where the button is)
4. The dock still has an USB-C port and will also support 4K image output.
5. The new kickstand also has a damping bracket on the back for improved angle adjustment.
6. The screen is bigger, up to 8 inches and the resolution is upgraded to 1080p.

  1. Daaaaaaaamn what is happening today? I’m getting all hyped up! Now THIS makes more sense, I found it weird that the pro controller was forward compatible but not the joycons, these news are pretty coherent tho, I kinda believe there is some truth to it

    1. It seems to be just a boosted switch…which is very improbable when you know Nintendo as I already said…(some forget the failure of the wii u)

      1. And maybe you forgot how the SNES and 3ds were beef up versions of their predecessor and yet they sold just as well, the wii u failed because Nintendo didn’t advertise it properly, and most people were very confused at whether it was a addon or brand new console

        1. Don’t forget an aging architecture from the GC days, so made it harder for any real 3rd party support (let alone the fact of early Wii U days of Nintendo requiring to use up some of the resources to make use of the 2nd screen, for quite a few 3rd party titles)

  2. High Priest of the Mario Monks

All hail our lord and saviour switch 2. Bath in its all mighty omnifince. OOOOooOOOooooOOoohhhh!! Saviour of 4k 60fps gaming in nintendo titles. As it should be.

    1. I could believe it if it’s a 4K upacale when docked. You can upscale a ton of retro consoles with varying degrees of success by running them through an external peripheral running on it’s own power, and a next-gen dock could probably accomplish that. I really doubt it’d render 4K native though.

  3. Not bad. I’d hope that either it releases with an OLED display, or another OLED model releases concurrently.
Also, I want switch games to play at their DOCKED resolution, and have the ability to take advantage of all the hardware upgrades (not like the Wii, where the GC games relied on old DOLPHIN-era architecture sandwiched into the case). It’d be nice to play Xenoblade, in handheld mode, at 1080p without the OG switch’s atrocious variable resolution nonsense

  4. Sounds as though this will be similar to how their was the DS and the 3DS, where you can play DS games on the 3DS but not 3DS Games on the DS due to the cartridges being a different shape.

Makes sense, people feel like it’ll be more like Wii to Wii U, but I feel like it’s more likely to be like DS to 3DS but hopefully better handled

  5. The electromagnet attachment makes no sense to me. An electromagnet needs electricity to become a magnet, this means that as long as the joycons are attached its drains power from the system (besides charging that stops when its full).
This way you cant turn it completely off (not sleep mode) and be sure the batteries wont drain within a week just from sitting.

    1. I hate when I have to charge my 200 magnets collection in my fridge I can’t even sleep they keep falling off during the night

    2. They’re probably also be in a rail, so they are more actively attached to the console while playing… but I’m also still not buying it, because of Nintendo being very considerate with not wasting energy for battery life…

    3. What could be is that they have some weak passive magnets, which don’t need power. It will make the attachment to the console a bit more firm.
