Nintendo says that “we will continue to release info [about next console] in phases”

Nintendo‘s recent results briefing and investors Q&A was a big one for multiple reasons. A Nintendo Direct was announced for June, the company acknowledged their next hardware for the first time, and the Nintendo Switch’s lifetime sales continue to get ever so closer to the lifetime sales of Sony’s PlayStation 2.

However, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa wasn’t quite done talking about what the plans are for Nintendo’s next console. Investors were curious about it in the Q&A meeting that was held. According to Furukawa, “as with previous announcements of new hardware, we will continue to release information in phases leading up to launch”.

If you recall, this was a similar approach to the way that Nintendo unveiled the Switch. They first acknowledged it in an investor’s meeting early in 2016, they revealed it via a trailer in October that same year, then they went more in-depth about the console in a special presentation that was held in January of 2017. It seems that Nintendo will be doing the same with the next console. You can see a tweet relaying the news of Furukawa’s remarks down below.

  1. All it needs is to at least be able to compete with the steam deck when it comes to power. There are other handheld PCs with better specs but the steam deck is the new handheld baseline.

    1. Even if it barely matched the Steam Deck, the Switch 2’s games will be optimized specifically for it, as 100% of Switch 2 owners will have exactly the same hardware, therefore devs have only one set of specs to develop for.

  2. I figure this would be a no brainer alot of people are expecting to just hear the announcement next March, but I feel like they could give us a reveal anytime after June at least around late August to late October.

  3. As I think, it will be a video presentation in September with a global presentation in January for a release in March… but that’s at best… They can also decide to do everything in 2025.Et no offense to some as well as to these “leakers”, a release in 2024 is out of the question at the moment
