Today has been a very busy day for Nintendo fans. Not only did Nintendo announce that a Direct was coming next month, but the company is finally beginning to open up about their next console. More info will be coming within this fiscal year, but Nintendo did decide to say just a bit more about the console to investors earlier today.
Today was the day Nintendo held an financial results investors call. There, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa told investors that the appropriate way to describe the next console is that it is a “Switch next model”. It suggests that rumors of the console being a more powerful Switch may be accurate. That all said, you can see a tweet relaying the news down below.

Why not? “Switch U” is a great name. The “U” at the end is kind of nice.
Well, where’s the people talking about “Switch 2 doesn’t exist!” and “it won’t be the same thing as the Switch!”?

I honestly think now it will be called “Switch Next”. Regardless of what it’s called I’ll be in line to get mine at midnight release.

And for the deaf, the hard of hearing, and the blind , the only thing I say is that a “simple” switch with just a more powerful SoC is simply impossible

Smart move. I’m so glad they did the thing that makes sense. As long as it’s more powerful and has full backwards compatibility, it’ll do good.
I seriously hope this doesn’t mean we’re not getting a new Smash bros any time soon. I’ve waited too long as it is.

Joking aside, I’m hoping there will be more to it than “just a Switch with more horsepower.” As to what that can be, even I can’t imagine.
I’m gonna make this a good effort that Nintendo is trying to mock Xbox fans about a powerful hardware.

My wild dream version of the Switch 2 is the “Nintendo Flip”, with two screens and a clamshell design, able to be docked like the current Switch. Just for fun, I’m guessing the color associated with the next console will be green.
It’ll be called SWiitch. I’ll let myself out.
I honestly feel they should go safe and actually call it the switch 2 tbh, i don’t like the name either but it’s the safest name I could think of to make people understand that it’s gonna be a totally new hardware, still hoping to be called the Super Switch with a Super Nintendo color palette ahahahah

I’ll call it now. ‘Switch Flip’ or ‘Switch Dual’. Like the 3DS with two screens. Detachable joy cons, but the hinge can be flexed all the way back on itself so it can stand up with screens on opposite sides. Games will be great for 2 player competitive as you can’t see the other players screen if you sit opposite each other offering some unique on the go experiences with friends.
